Hi guys

I am here to get some answers as to what is wrong with me, I believe I am not diabetic but having hypoglycemic episodes for the last few years and getting more and more intense and frequent, docs have been next to useless even though I have been numerous times, symptoms include

Severe sweating (upper body mainly head and neck and can be soaked within a minute or 2 in a shop etc)
Faint/dizzyness/light headed
Fatigue (sometimes chronic)
feeling of hunger(urgent need for food/fuel, nothing like normal hunger)
anxiety
aches all over my body mainly legs and arms
IBS (on and off but improved since diagnosed Vitamin D deficient)
Irritability (very snappy at times)
clumsy/confusion
Depression
fast pulse
shakes

Hopefully I can find some help here while I wait and wait for my docs to take me seriously

best wishes
Greeny

Hypoglycaemia is when your blood sugar is too low and there is only one way to confirm this and it is to test your blood with a meter.

As to your list of symptoms, I only recognise a couple of them. Clumsy/confusion and the shakes are consistent with hypoglycaemia but as for the rest it sounds as if you are a disaster area.

I looks as though you will have to stay with your next to useless docs.

Blood sugars are not massively low ranging from 3-8 but generally in the late 3's to 4+ when testing

yes I am a disaster area mate, certainly feel like one

3 to 4 is in the hypo area but, as I said, I don't think it explains many of your symptoms.

well I found out about Hypos by looking up my symptoms (used to be just 1/2/3 at a time, now starting to get more and more piling on top at same time) and the symptoms came up with hypos

Early symptoms of hypoglycemia may include:

  • Confusion
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling shaky
  • Hunger
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Pounding heart; racing pulse
  • Pale skin
  • Sweating
  • Trembling
  • Weakness
  • Anxiety
Without treatment, more severe hypoglycemia symptoms may develop, including:

  • Headache
  • Feeling irritable
  • Poor coordination
  • Poor concentration
  • Numbness in mouth and tongue
  • Passing out
  • Nightmares or bad dreams
  • Coma

With respect those symptoms could also match many things, including a hangover. To be clear, I'm not suggesting you are hungover, but advising not to get too hung up on what you want the answer to be.

We're all different, and I live my life in the 3s and 4s and feel these are my natural, healthy levels.

I know what you mean but i can'y not get hung up on what it is because my life is ruined I can't do anything, not worked in last few years, can't have a social life even if I could afford it and sweating like a pig wherever I go and feeling as though I am about to pass out 75% of the time makes life quite frankly pointless and unbearable, I am 35 and living like a 80 year old at the moment ..so yeah mate I am pretty hung up about what it is because if its not sorted soon i'll probably lose the will to carry on at all

everything points to hypoglycemia at the moment

Hi Greeny,

See if this article is any help to you.

http://www.hormone.org/questions-and-answers/2013/nondiabetic-hypoglycemia

How is non-diabetic hypoglycemia diagnosed?
Your doctor can diagnose non-diabetic hypoglycemia by reviewing your symptoms, doing a physical exam, looking at your risk for diabetes, and checking your blood glucose level. Your doctor will also see whether you feel better after you eat or drink to raise your glucose to a normal level.

Checking your blood glucose to see if it is actually low (about 55 mg/dL or less) when you’re having symptoms is an important part of diagnosis. Your doctor will check your blood glucose level and may order other tests. A personal blood glucose meter is not accurate enough for diagnosis.

For fasting hypoglycemia, you may have your blood glucose checked every few hours during a fast lasting several days. For reactive hypoglycemia, you might have a test called a mixed-meal tolerance test (MMTT).

For the MMTT, you first have a special drink containing protein, fats, and sugar. The drink raises your blood glucose, causing your body to make more insulin. Then your blood glucose level is checked a number of times over the next five hours.

Both tests check to see if your blood glucose levels drop too low. Your doctor might also check your blood for insulin levels or other substances.

If your Doctor is not prepared to diagnose then I suggest you see another one and ask to be referred to an Endocrinologist.

I suppose you could also take steps to keep your blood sugar up and see if you feel better. If you are overweight at the moment this is not a good idea but you only have to do it for a few days to see what happens. Eat something every two hours and preferably something with carbs in. A slice of bread and butter will do. Weetabix is another suggestion. You can find your own ideas. You could always come back here and let us know how you got on.

Can you let us know whether your weight is in the 'normal' range. Yes, try to shift your blood sugar up a little bit temporarily for a day or so e.g. with glucose tablets or Lucozade and see if any of the symptoms change

this is too difficult

I have many of those symptoms. I put it down to diabetes (and being very fat), but it seems My B12 and D deficiencies may be the cause of many of them.

I'm overweight 225 lbs (16 stone ish) 5 9' so not quite normal range, eat fairly well but tend to pig out at night a bit too much, can't exercise much lately due to fatigue and aches (used to go to gym and walk loads) still walk when I don't feel rough and small bike rides 2/3 times a week if possible but less and less lately as symptoms get worse

Interesting that your blood sugar should be so low when overweight. Not quite sure how to react to those facts. I think you do need to try to see a consultant if you can. The facts imply you aren't diabetic but have other conditions?

Yeah my bloods don't seem high enough to be diabetic, highest I caught them was about 8 and that is rare, had them in the 3's early 4's lots of times though
also my bloods seem pretty stable on waking up for an hour or 2 even though I wont have eaten while asleep (I do eat before bed though)
it tends to be after breakfast (hour or 2 later) and after dinner (couple of hours after)

whatever it is I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy
