Hello,

My name is Andy and I've been a member on here since January when I was first diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't posted anything but have been dipping in and reading posts from time to time. I've learned a lot and taken on board information on a low carb diet from here and elsewhere on the web.

I'm posting now to say thanks because today, 3 months since diagnosis, I got my HbA1c blood test results and was delighted to find that I'm back in 'normal' range. A reading of 38 mmol/mol down from 52 mmol/mol in January. It's fair to say that without the low carb diet and the information found on this forum, I would not be where I am now.

I realise I can't be complacent and I am focused on my goal to continue losing weight (I've lost 3.5 stones so far) and keep my blood sugars down. I shall be sticking around and may even post some more now I've broke my cherry!

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks guys. I really am grateful for what I've learned here. I have worked hard at it but without the information gleaned here I would probably have taken the NHS advice to keep eating carbs and who knows, perhaps I would've been on meds by now?!

Well done, that is brilliant and worth a celebration. :)
Glad you found us and listened to other diabetics and not the NHS.

Keep posting!

Fabulous! You are doing all the correct things obviously! I am up and down with it but doing reasonably well :)

Well done @smull ! I hope that's not a pint of beer you're holding in your avatar! :)
Do keep posting now that you've emerged from the shadows.

And bananas!

There are some beers with significantly lower carbs than standard. Still have to be a treat rather than the norm of course. There's a few threads on this, but Holsten Pils is 11 carbs per can as opposed to for example Stella which I believe is 16 per can.

Thanks. Beers were one of my first concerns lol

Marston's Resolution (Used to be called Low C) is only 1.8g carbs & 87kcal per 275ml bottle! Tastes ok too.

@smull congrats! and a word of warning, I see the 'before' pic is next to an aircraft. I too have lost a lot from my head/face and can tell you from bitter experience that, the 'automatic' passport gates will not let you through if your passport photo is anything like the 'before' pic, It's not your head!

Cheers, I'll keep that in mind! Fortunately(?) I have kids so normally end up going through the manual passport check.
