Hello there..

Hi,

i'm kinda new round these parts, i have been diagnosed with type 2 for the past 18 months or so, and so far failing quite epically to get it under control! I have been on Metformin -both types (apparently i am allergic  ) Gliclazide - was up to maximum dose it did nothing.... and another one that sounds like rosa-something-or-other, but that didn't work either...and i can never remember the name let alone pronounce it!

I am a working mum of 4 small peeps, which sometimes makes eating right hard, but i do try.....

Been eating low/no carbs for a while as much as i can and it has made some difference, but i have a small addiction to bread, however any bread and i am usually found 20 minutes later sleeping it off somewhere...i am trying to be a good girl after a sneaky roll (it had prawns in it, it was semi healthy honest) at work i was found alseep at my desk  and i got into deep trouble :(

I am currently on no meds, charting 4 times daily and doing dip stick tests too (fun fun fun), so the nice Dr can see what's going on, this has been been a strange week so far, huge ups and downs emotionally and for me fairly high glucose levels..... not gone under 12 and been up to 19 (pre meal readings).... (not sure these compare to other people and my highs are probably not that high really ~lol~)

I am off to see the nice Dr this evening and to hand him my week of readings...and to see what is going to be next...

so yes...

thats me so far..

Hi Scarlet, welcome to the forum

My goodness how do you cope with diabetes and all the ups and downs involved AND working AND looking after your little ones? I can barely look after myself never mind others, I take off my hat to you and on top of it all you still have a sense of humour left too.

You have come to the right place here, there is lots and lots of expert advice here on dealing with all aspects of diabetes, so start by reading a few posts around here, hmmmm bit overwhelming because there is so much, but take your time and any questions that crop up just ask, there is always someone here to give you just the right answer that works for you too.

Let us know what that doctor had to say tonight, good luck with the appointment anyway.

All the best and hugs to your 4 little teddybears :-)

Karen x

Is it 'rosiglitazone that you took or rosuvastatin? One is a diabetes drug the other is a statin to reduce your cholesterol.

Hi Scarlet.

First of all your Bg levels are way too high. You definitely need to see someone other than your GP who may be able to sort out your Bg levels. Get yourself referred to an Endocrinologist for a second opinion. It is not a criticism of your GP but your right to ensure you are getting the best treatment available.

For your information as a T2 the 2009 NICE guideline Bg levels you should be aiming for are these:
Fasting (waking)...............between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 Hrs after meals..............no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

Obviously the lower the better. As you can see your levels are way outside these guidelines so you are no doubt going to have to do some work here.

Ken.

Welcome. Lots of good advice here, ask whatever you need to.

You need to keep a food diary and write EVERYTHING in to it, even things you have just a mouthful of!

You also need to test after you have eaten. What is your testing regime at the moment?

Hello there from Colecraft

Hi I was diagnosed 2 years ago with type2, have always tried to be good about diet etc, but I'm brand new to Diabetes UK and I'm absolutely gobsmacked to find Non-Low and Low carb threads !

My Doc who (I think highly of) said keep BS below 8ish and eat lots of carbs cus they're slow release food,or that what I thought he said, (but I am ONLY a bloke !) so to read all this is worrying.

Am I just overeacting to all this new info , - or what ?...... I have more hypos than high BS in my life, half of which seem to make NO sense at all in view of what Ive eaten or done, should I re-evaluate my opinion of my Doc ?

Anyway I think this thread IS useful for peeps like me.

Hi Colecraft.
Welcome to the forum. Have a good look around and ask any questions you wish. I have moved your post to here as it is the correct area for an introduction.

You are a T2 so your Bg levels should be within the following 2009 NICE guidelines.
Fasting (waking) ................between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals................no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

If you can get lower numbers all the better, especially for your health and avoidance of complications later.

If you are getting regular Hypo's then it could be your medication needs a review, or your diet needs some tweaking ? If you are able to eat lots of carbs and still keep good Bg numbers then that's good. As for your GP, I am sure you will make your own mind up after looking around the forum ?

The reason we have low and non low carb areas is because these subjects can be contentious. Therefore if you are one or the other, post in the correct area.

Ken.

hey guys thanks for the warm welcome...

well i went to see the nice Dr last night.....he said i am running high but not "dangerously" high, so he is sending me too see the Endo next week...

at the moment i have been charting 4 times a day and pre-meal figures as he told me to do which is odd as my other Dr want post meal readings but each to their own i guess... untill i go see the endo i have to carry on charting and was told to eat to quote" as if you were not diabetic i want base line readings" irk.....uhmm yeah ok mr Dr thats me comatose most of the time then...joy.... not sure i want to go down that route as well i like being awake and being sleepy 24/7 does not fit in with my being awake and having a life, and job plan

ahh Karen it was indeed rosiglitazone not the other one, always reminds me of some weird potion or something...but then again i am odd :D as far as i know my cholestrol is pretty dam good, can't remember the reading (yes i know bad diabetic, bad) and my Hab1c last was 8.5ish - (note to self pay attention to these numbers more)

sooo..uhmmm i have rambled enough again me thinks

Hi Ken, I cant figure out exactly what to do with/put my quote, but its - The plan is, ..... theres no plan!
Thanks for the welcome and information, (and moving my post), I note where you're from with interest as I lived in Walmley for years and have friends n relatives in Sutton.
The figures you quote are heartening on the whole , I just get frustrated sometimes when I cant for the life of me figure out when BS is way up or way down, especially when you think you're doing alright.
Glucophage has helped smooth out the peaks n troughs but I do still get troughs I don't expect, ......but you're right tweaking the diet will help.
I'll spend time looking around, I think the website is very very good, ..... just need to get my head around it all.
thanks again,
John
