hello all,

Well let me break it down for you .....
Am 37 ..always been fit and always active all my life ...yes did like my sweets but as a high NRG person I would but of most things and stay around the 11st mark.
Two years ago I was told I have rumortiod arthritis (RA)...in both feet..knee and will progress to the rest of body....
Year ago I was working at the home offiice and at my desk.....the night before was in gym ...doing 20 miles on bike and static work....
Had chest pains then thought ....food ...worked it of with ibubrphen ....but next day at work was taken from my desk to hospital as looked like heart attack

Well was not ..was myocarditis ....mean my body was full of inflammation and had attacked my heart on the cellar level.....
RA is an auto immune .......so they stuck me on new meds to get under control
Methotrexate pen....20msg

Two weeks in to this I started to get thirsty ...am mean proper ...8L a day and two at night and I could hardly walk .....went docs....they did tests on liver and found it was failing on me and they said if I had taken one more injection it would of been very bad ...to the point of not writing this out.....

So they stopped meds.....but the the thirst kept on ...the amount of trips to loo...swear ...be rich if got £1 for each one lol..... So tired and dead to world.....
Three weeks after I stopped meds...I was having a bath....oh hell and dam fire ....felt like heart was going to go bang .....and was so weak I could hardly stand ....
Crawled in to bed...picked mobile texted my partner and told her ....999.....
They came on blues and two when they told them.....

All I can recall is the doctor saying ...its ether ICU now before he slips away now ...or if we can do this fast enough and get him stable we may win.
So they ment I was about a moment to coma and a few hours from not being here...once again....so tired lol

So was made stable after 8 hours to be level to a degree and move to a ward .....four days of getting ketones down...and oh boy they was high...and sugger levels where bad too....
So four days in and at end they came to me and said " Mr Jonny Jibbs ...your a type 1". My first thought ...well least am number one....in what race...then it clicked....

Last two week since I have been out it has been hell.... Had spikes of over 34 and my will power is not there as am at point of not excepting the dam thing in heart. But head knows and understands the complexity of the body and how food is moved about for poser and all that jazz... I don't go on DAFNE till end of July .....
Am on fixed shots 5 times a day at mo .... But sugars have been up and down like so and so since out..... Carbs counting not a clue ...what can and can not have in terms of bits I liked ...not a clue.... I have no info and no idea what am doing lol ....but I do see the DNS next week........

So that's me in my third week in being told I have to give up all that I love ....oh why is that peaing me off.... Coz my RA. Has a
Ready taken all my sports away ...I walk on two crutches now....so being told can not have my food .... On top of the other ....kinda been angry as hell since
I even sad bad words on here and got in trouble ...but I was at point of tearing a head off...any head ...still kinda am lol

Anyway ....that's me .....guess it's back to school now and learn ...but to be honest ...always was the one at the back of bike shed ...

Good luck all

Oh and one last thought.....am blind in one eye and the other has lost sight since being out ....taken over two hours to type that and make sure it was right lol.....

Maybe it's the vets for me lol

Hey Jonny, sorry to hear about your woes, sounds like you've been hit with a sledge hammer.

If you can take any positives from this, you are alive and you know what's wrong with you. I think before getting diagnosed having so much go wrong is a nightmare, not being able to put your finger on it means living in limbo, knowing your diagnosis means you can start getting right again. Are you reading up on this much ? I think a lot of inflammation is to do with eating refined sugar so that is one to avoid, it doesn't mean that life is going to get really worse but you can start doing stuff to make you feel better. Try to stay positive and any help in getting you blood glucose right just shout, we are all here to help

Honestly ...not a dam thing as don't make much sense to me at mo...plus only just been ab,e to start reading again as sight went in last good eye....still rather peaed off ...but am getting to there..day by day ......

I been proper bad ....
Had porridge with cranberries for breakfast
Lunch was ham salad sandwich on wholemeal sealed bread
Then two biscuits ..bourbons
Dinner was prawn noodles and loads of veg
The. Sugger free jelly and vanilla ice cream

The. Two more rich tea.....and going to be make home made popcorn in hour

I know but that s normal for me ...only 3 week ...so don't give me to much ear bashing

I know the feeling...I almost caved in tonight and got a Chinese but resisted the urge.

Jonny, you certainly have and are having a horrendous time, I'm so sorry. I'm new type 1 and I know it's like someone's hit you with a brick, and with all your conditions, I don't know how u are coping, but you must be!! Somehow!! You will get your best advice and knowledge on this site as I have learned more about how to control this thing on here than with my diabetic team. There's always a topic that you can relate to. We are all here for you

Brill....just make sure you bring a Mars bar for me too !!

But thank you all

I know the feeling...I almost caved in tonight and got a Chinese but resisted the urge.

Mmmmm ribs and duck ...spice rice and pop .....dam you lol now I want one lol...better go and make pop corn instead Lolol.....oh hummmm take away

I was sooo hungry just now, I ate big bit of mature chedder, creamy!Lol

Tuc buicuits are only 2.7 carb each, cheese 0. Celery 0.. Dont know bout popcorn. When I dont know carbs, I look em up on google.

Ooooo now I like them lol...popcorn if made fresh is so low....far as I can see

Just dont eat alot..the more u eat, the more carbs....i think its high gi, so maybe test yourself after an hour to check your bg

Lol...yer they lasted 4 min and gone.... What can I say ...not ready to give up food ....only treat I had left lol...
Well I just did my blood...

You had a rotten time but you can still eat and enjoy food just that you need to learn what foods are treats and good foods to eat.
You have got your dafne course early compared to a lot of others so although its July alot of people have to wait a year. I been T1 30+ years and never had a course but can stil carb count!!

Are you in regular contact with the hospital team about your bloods? Are they advising you to change any doses?

WRONG...
Please do not follow this advice... You have been put on set doses of insulin so if you cut everything out as suggested above you would stand the chance of going hypo!!

Do not play around with cutting out pasta, bread etc without knowing how to adjust your doses yourself.

You ned to learn carb counting and to be able to adjyst your doses with confidence before listening to the advice above.
