Hello Type 1, are you staying ...guess so.....where's my passport

You had a rotten time but you can still eat and enjoy food just that you need to learn what foods are treats and good foods to eat.
You have got your dafne course early compared to a lot of others so although its July alot of people have to wait a year. I been T1 30+ years and never had a course but can stil carb count!!

Are you in regular contact with the hospital team about your bloods? Are they advising you to change any doses?

Not really ...am kinda got head stuck in sand on it at mo ..still not been able to accept it ...not sure why ...man of science and totally understand the functions of the body ....but just won't except it lol ...am sure will. But they got me on DAFNE as soon as can as something to do with my DKNs .

Just can not get my mouth to eat the foods I hate and they are the only ones everyone bangs on about
Love pasta love rice love brown bread love baking ...
Hate fish always have wont eat it .....love my meats and LOVE my sweets .......

It's a change I just don't want to do .....and a. Not sure I will be able to to be honest lol....right now I am thinks of using last of cash ...booking ticket to somewher with now wifi or 3G

And have the time of life ....

I know I know ....waffling on now

If you can get your insulin doses right then pasta, rice, bread isn't off limits to you.

Its DKA that they are worried about when you can be very, very ill or die (as an acquantance of mine did a couple months ago).

I stuck to the rules when I was diagnosed and cried myself to sleep everynight for 6 weeks. Then I learnt I could adjust my insulin and therefore my food.

I would try to limit your sweets but if you really want pasta etc it officially isn't off limits to T1's. Its getting your doses right.

If you want better health you would be advised to eat fish but I didn't for 50 years before I realised that it is delicious...

I think you are sort of in the grieving stage of diagnosis. However, life goes on... You are here. You can have a good life even with diabetes so don't fly off spending last of your money. Hang around. You're with new friends here.

I agree with @donnellysdogs. You're a Type 1 and do not have to do a Low Carb High Fat diet. What you have got to learn is to carb count and adjust your insulin with the help of your diabetic team. Don't do it by yourself at this stage, you're too new to this diabetic world. Running away is not the answer, It'll still be here when you come back. Stand up to this Diabetic beast and face it head on. Are you a Man or a Mouse? From what I've read, you've been through more than most of us and you're still here. That to me says you're a man.........................Just try to stop eating the 'junk', popcorn, mars bars etc. You can still have your rice, pasta and bread, I do and I have my glucose levels under control, I still eat chocolate too, but not a whole Mars bar:rolleyes: . Do try and get your glucose readings into single figures if you can. I understand DKA is nasty and can be fatal. Diabetes is a challenge, but after the initial shock, anger and all sorts of other emotions, are you really going to let it get the better of you? I think not.

Sorry I do tend to think in terms of T2 .... and then advise new people not to get confused with the T1 and T2 stuff.doomed.gif

Jonny, I eat a small bowl of cherios for brekki. I personally inject 6 units novorapid fast acting insulin half an hr before hand and this keeps my levels ok. I eadt a small 'Burgen' ham and salad sarnie for lunch and pack of French fries, again I inject 20 mins or so before then a healthy tea..i have a donnar kebab and salad once a week, but if you eat something fatty like donna meat, inject immediately before or immediately after as the fatty meat takes about 4 hrs to show rise in bg. I eat 75% choci, just 2 squares, but its enough for my sweet tooth. When you see your DN, she will reassure you. If you like salad and veg this will help your levels alot.

Susikav.....funny enough no I do not know what to do ...that was so blooming annoying of all of this
....have to wait three months to be told what I am to do

DAFNE .....

But was not that bad ....I certainly felt good for the chocolate lol

As others have said here there is no reason why you need to sacrifice everything - although I firmly believe sugar is our no. 1 enemy, shown to have the same effects as crack cocaine on the brain and it's known to cause inflammation in the body, as also gluten does too. I cannot give up my red wine, I told my DSN that of all the things I used to enjoy this was the one that I wasn't going to give up so still enjoy a couple of glasses now and again. I know your having a hard time taking in your diagnosis but I'm sure you want to feel better too ? Running at 20+ is going to slow you down and make you feel worse, feeling better must be a priority for you now. I've felt like running away too, just the reality kicks in and iknow nothing is going to get better and feeling ill is something I really want to avoid. You will start to feel a lot better if you can rein in the die hard food habits, it may seem like a huge challenge to start with but one day at a time, just focus on getting back into single figures - you sound like a man of character who has a number of challenges, you can do this. Perhaps go and see you GP and talk about how your feeling too, see what advice they give you.

Also please drink lots of water you body needs to flush that excess glucose out of your system (that's my mum comment lol) ;)

Hi Jonny... It might help you to read previous posts on this thread; read the 'What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning' thread, as well as loads of others on the forum... Or, if you want to, you could start a new thread if it's pertinent... Most of us low-carb/high-fat to keep our numbers down, which mean binning all carbs, except the ones in tree nuts and above ground vegetables... no rice or pasta - of any kind - no potatoes, very little sweet potato or butternut squash... etc... and no sugar at all of course... Stevia and Truvia are a really good alternative to sugar though... there's plenty of information on the forum, plus, there are very knowledgeable people on here too.... you can dip into a vast pool of collective knowledge any time you like - someone will answer you... :) I was diagnosed last October and fortunately found this forum very quickly... I've been low-carbing ever since and my doctor is amazed at my 'lower-than-normal' readings... :) He leaves me alone to carry on doing what I'm doing and is always interested... I'm lucky I think though, not all medics are so kindly disposed towards low-carbing.. they seem to want you to take the meds instead and advise you to eat more carbs... it makes no sense... But I am overloading you with information here, sorry... so much to learn, but there is loads of support here... we're all in the same boat after all... Some people on here have even reversed their diabetes 2... amazing... Good luck honey.... :)

PS: You can eat a couple of squares of 85% black chocolate too... :) I melt it with cream and a little butter and some Stevia, put it in the fridge and then I have milk chocolate of a kind..

Yes definately write a blog - i'm sure you will inspire many others, it's a journey we are all on and sharing information can help others :)
