Hi there
just been diagnosed...i will be asking you all for your advice and help over the next few months so i hope you dont all mind. This looks a relly good and useful forum and am hoping to benefit from everyones experience. Thanking you all in advance..

My History
Male 43 years old, 13st 4lb 3 months ago and now 11st 10lb 1 metre 72cm

i have just been to the doctors as i was experiencing rapid weight loss 18 pounds in 3 months and the doctor found glucose in my urine. He took an armful of blood and my results came back as 25mmol. He has referred me to see the nurse next week but in the meantime have got my own tester. My results throughout the day have been between 22 and 27. Only done 3 so far.

A few questions to get started
What are the best times of day to test and how many tests a day should i be doing as only just diagnosed?

What questions should i ask the nurse next week, and should i be asking for any more tests to be done like gtt or hba1c test.

Thanking You All

Welcome to the forum Curleous. In answer to the tester question.Test before a meal, then 2 hours after to see the effect it has had on you.Keep a food diary so that you can see which foods are sending your blood sugars up.
Your should have an Hba1c test done and also a GTT but with blood sugars that high the result will only confirm what you already know, that you are diabetic.
Try cutting down the amount of carbs that you are eating to see if this brings down your blood sugar levels.

Thanks Sue

i am really concerned as i know i was slightly overweight three months ago but by no means obese and had what i considered to be a healthy diet. I hardly ever eat sweets chocolate biscuits cakes or snack between meals. Guess i will just have to wait and see what the nurse says.

Thanks again

Welcome Curieous.

You say you will see what the Nurse says ? Might well contradict Sue.

However I think you should listen to Sue's advice. It is sound and will do what it says. Your Nurse might be from the old school ? The sooner you act on that advice the better.
Sweets, Cakes, Biscuits and Chocolate etc aren't the only thing you need to be wary of in your diet.
IMOHO that so called healthy diet could be the root cause of your high Bg levels.
