Hi I was diagnosed t2 back in Dec 2015. The initial diagnosis knocked the wind out of me as I had prior to that been eating close to paleo (I say close to as I was adding dairy into the mix ) and my biggest downfall was drinking fizzy drinks. Likelihood is the fizzy drinks were the killer. Anyway my HbA1c was 50 at the point of diagnosis. I was put on 500mg metformin which had to be changed to the slow release version simply because I didn't feel very well at all in the normal one. I have monitored my bg for years and know some of the problem foods (although new ones seem to pop up from time to time - and my body seems to over time react differently to foods that I used to cope with). Anyway after attending a course one self management (dietary) and accepting one of their monitors they were giving out (frustrating as I loved my accucheck mobile I was using before, but hey this one is free and I get my strips for free!) I finally got my lancets and strips on prescription, I just hope my nurse doesn't get funny with me as I test very regularly! That is what I don't understand - how can we get good tight control if we do not get the strips and machines to know what is going on?! That was of course rhetorical and I don't expect a reply. Until recently I was a student nurse and I've seen the effects of poor control and am determined to prevent them if I can (even if I have to supplement the strips I get so I can test more frequently).
Anyway I don't really have any questions and I will definitely be around, I just wanted to wave and say hi to everyone here.
Hi @RoseofSharon
Welcome aboard. Its a great site for info and questions although it seems to me you have been doing exceptionally well. You are absolutely right about the Meter and taking control of you Blood Sugars yourself. Perhaps you should aim to see if you can't get of the meds? You are doing so well it would have to be a chance.
Cheers
