I'm prediabetic and had a blood test today not the one that you have to drink something sweet but the fasting one. The results was 5.5 is that blood test a reliable one? I had the glucose drink one about four months ago and although I can't remember what it was something like 9 I think that is a lot of difference. Or hope its meaning I'm doing better.

Hi. The fasting test is only fairly reliable but a figure of 5.5 is good. The earlier test you had, the Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT), is more reliable but I'm not familiar with the typical results except 9 sounds slightly on the high side. The most reliable test is the HBa1C but it is normally only done a few months after diagnosis and then annually. So, from what you say it could be you are still pre-diabetic but your GP would need to confirm that.
