Help/Advice please. Thanks

Are there any bad side effects I should look out for taking Metformin? Thanks
Some people get upset stomachs, I did for about the first week but tolerate it well now. If the upset continues this can sometimes be resolved by switching to the slow release version.

Lol good as since I've upped it that what I have lol. Thanks

Been to the doctors today for a blood test hoping things will be looking good. Weight seems to be fluctuating between 17 st 3lb - 17st 7lb. Been trying to eat well been having breakfast everyday which is usually half a bowl of wheatabix or branflakes. Or couple slices of wholemeal toasted bread. Lunch is usually an apple a Muller yogurt which are both quite sugary but it's an easy on the go additional bit of lunch. Then sometimes a salad. Or ham sandwich on wholemeal. This week though has consisted of low carb/ sugar crisps according to the label. In wholemeal rolls lol. Which has been rather nice. I do sometimes have abit of chocolate or an ice cream cone but I can't be expected to have nothing excited lol. Hope everyone is getting on well.

Hi @NathLynn27 Have you an eye check or your feet check? If not, please chase up your diabetic nurse. You can also ask to go on an education course such as DESMOND which may help you understand how many carbs are in certain foods. If you got a meter and tested you BG levels after foods like weetabix and branflakes aren't actually doing you any good! I have greek yoghurt with berries and seeds for breakfast, low carb soup for lunch and my treats are cheese and nuts. Easy on the go lunches can be lower than you are having. Try a salad with cheese, fish, egg or sliced chicken.
Having said all that, it is obviously up to you how seriously you take this diagnosis and want to change things.

Well that's just put a dampener on it. I thought what I was having seemed pretty good. I've had my feet checked and my eyes checked all came back fine. Blood pressure was fine today below diabetic normal. Diabetic nurse said for breakfast brown cereals were pretty good. According to the label aswell seem ok. Before I was eating nothing. Thanks for help though will try changing few bits.

@NathLynn27 I'm so sorry, I really didn't mean to upset you or belittle your work so far.
The problem is that most GPs and DNs still push the Eatwell Plate and that isn't actually very good for most diabetics. I realise this is unsolicited advice so please forgive me.

I'm sorry to say this, but the nurse is completely wrong about what we can eat - no matter what colour it is, carbohydrate raises blood glucose, as it is digested to become sugar.
If you get hold of a meter and test you will possibly find that you can eat a small amount of carbs, and by eating low carb your metabolism might recover a bit so you can from time to time eat a bit more, but a constant daily intake of starch and sugar is really pushing it, and it is unlikely to end well.
You can eat meat, fish eggs cheese - salad and low carb veges, but processed grain really isn't your friend, so bread, cereals. rice etc should be avoided, so should potatoes.
If you look at the carbohydrate content on the packets you can check what you are eating.
Usually I eat foods under 11 percent carb daily, with small amounts of some things a bit higher, such as dark chocolate a couple of times a week.

Alot of the stuff I eat I do check the carb intake and sugars. Usually. I have a meeting soon then will find out about getting a tester and trying to be put forward for the training. Can I eat Muller yogurts? Not a big fan of Greek yogurts. Thanks

You don't need to check sugars - they are included in the carbohydrates.
The Muller yogurts with fruit are high carb - you could have a whole cooked meal with the same amount of carbs as one pot.
Type twos are not supposed to test their blood glucose levels - we aren't clever enough - I think that is the reason given, we might worry or hurt ourselves. We have to buy our own, but there is information about getting a meter and strips around on the forum mail order and cheap.
It can seem a bit of a faff at first, but getting normal blood glucose levels is really smug-making.

Had my blood test results back today from Friday. Haven't had full print off but doctor's note is saying stable blood levels. And my hba1c is now at 50 down from 64 usual level being 48
