Type 2 Help and advice needed - Novomix 30 FlexPen

Hi All,

After many years of denial I'm trying to get my life into gear. I've been a Type 2 diabetic for a long time but didn't really take my medication as it would make me sick and injections wasn't really an option. A few months ago I was started on Novomix 30 with 6mm needles. For the first few weeks it was fine and I felt I was on top of the issue. And then bang, I get a fear of needles.

I then sources 4mm and even though I know it will just be a little prick, I'm unable to inject myself. I have my husband do it on both occasions but there are times when our work timings aren't in sync and I just leave home without injecting.

The question is... is there any device I can use with the injection that will hide the needle when injecting, similar to how you prick your finger when checking blood sugar levels.

I need to get on top of my diabetes, now that I'm out of my denial and self destruct phase.

Any help will be appreciated.

@azure Im not sure it does suit the Novomix 30.

I've emailed the manufacturer to see if it does or not. I'm really feeling helpless right now

Can you pinpoint what started your needle fear if you were ok to,start with?

Another option would be an iPort but you might find it simpler (and cheaper) to explore coping mechanisms. I had/have a needle phobia and I 'think past' the needle. It works well, and I only occasionally get a twinge of fear - very occasionally.
 
@azure this is the problem I'm not sure what started it. I started off with 6mm needles and was fine. I would grab the skin and pop the injection in whilst looking. It was all ok.

And then suddenly I couldn't do it anymore. I get agitated, sweaty palms and increases heartbeat when I try to do it myself and then I'm pacing up and down as if I'm Rocky Balboa telling myself "you can do it, it's only 4mm for crying out loud".
 
Perhaps you're overthinking it? When I say 'think past', I briefly mean think of after the injection as you're doing it - ie what you're going to eat, your morning schedule at work, etc, etc

I would hope this is just a temporary blip for you.
 
Do you use pre-filled pens or cartridge-filled pens? I think Novomix is available in both.
It appears the cartridge option is compatible with the PenMate @azure mentioned.

@mannysehra , just go back to using the 6mm needles and see if that helps alleviate your fears and anxiety, just explains things to your gp and ask them to swap you back. Good luck.
