Does anyone know if there is anywhere that I could get help with the costs of new glasses?

I now need 3 pairs and am trying to find £500 for them.

eeek zuluwarrior that's a lot of money, have you tried varifocals? I swear I couldn't use anything else now after just 2 months with them; the lenses were "only" £250 and they start at £100. If you're on any benefits then there is some assistance provided, but you still have to pay the lion's share.

Tesco opticians in the larger Tesco superstores sell prescription glasses from £20.00 I am wearing a pair that cost me £40.00 to type this post :D

Certainly no need to pay £500 for 3 pairs, unless you want to...

I'm glad you asked this question. Is your prescription for 'special' lenses? Mine are single vision but non-standard presc. & cost around £230.- a pair, that's choosing the cheapest possible frames and it includes free sight test & standard reduction on lenses. My sight is deteriorating rapidly & I need to go back to the optician. This will be my third new pair of glasses in six months.

Now I've finally had a proper diagnosis & gone on medication I wondered if I could get any more than the standard reduction.

Unless you are on a means tested benefit I dont think there is any NHS help for glasses even for pensioners I think they have to be on means tested pension credits. Even if you were eligible for NHS specs they wont cover the cost of 3 pairs I think its only one pair you can get on the NHS and then you were limited as to what they will cover. With the NHS its going to be just the basic pair with the most basic lenses that are applicable for your eyesight I am afraid and no tints etc unless there is a medical/optical reason for it. I remember in the past they wouldn't even cover the cost of tints on my glasses to help with my dyslexia.
