Quirky

Undiagnosed with very severe symptoms, kept a log of my blood sugar level.

For the last few days, hardly able to stand up, lying down. Yesterday, felt as if blacking
out, same today. I took my blood glucose level two hours after eating. It was 10.3

I had chickpeas, olives, cheese and heart of artichokes.

Looking at my logged blood sugar level, its seems overal it is, slightly high in the morns,
and sometimes spike up two to three hours after eating. Twice, at 13.5 and 10.30

The symptoms are with hunger pangs, severe, not sated by any types of foods,
palpitatons, whch then provokes angina.

I was sent to endo who did not do the glucose challenge test
because, unluky for me, by fasting blood sugar level and the A1C were normal.

Having said that, my log shows a consisten eleveated blood sugar level in the morns,
at an average of 6.8

Worrying, the symptoms feel literally as if I am dying...unable to stand up. Weak, sometimes
hot sometimes very cold, whoozy, and so forth.

Input appreciated, as I am waiting to see a second endo, (NHS), smirk, who may well refuse the
challenge glucose test.

Meanwhile, feel as if life ebbing away, and the heart is definitely involved here, already suffer
from heart failure and subclinial hypthyroidism, untread unable to tolerate meds.

If this was diabetes, would it be T1 or T2?

Many thanks

i,m type 2, i,ve no idea what the symptoms are for type 1

Hi. You can't tell whether it's T1 or T2 by raised blood sugar. If you are overweight, then T2 is more likely due to insulin resistance from visceral fat. With T1 the islet cells are failing or have failed causing loss of insulin. The symptoms are similar with raised blood sugar. With overweight T2, weight reduction together with Metformin may reduce blood sugar again and bringing diabetes into remission. With Late onset T1 (LADA) you will usually be quite slim at diagnosis or have lost weight recently as the body burns fat to get it's energy needs. I would make a diary of your blood sugar 2 hour readings and show these to the GP or nurse. If you are overweight, then do follow a low-carb diet.

But how do doctors differentiate between T1 & T2? Upon what would they diagnose???

You posted about these symptoms back in November 2012. I suggest you visit your GP and not leave until you are satisfied. All the best.

Yes, I did, but none the wiser, same with GP. Sent to endo, who refused to do the glucose
tolerance test. Meanwhile, feeling very unwell, unable to stand up, with all mentioned symptoms.
Phoning the GP brings no results either. Will chase up if I have strenght, the second opinion
referal...

Straight up...

See your doctor, get the full MOT. Don't just focus on the Diabetes.. I mean get them to go through the catalogue..

I'm T1 & know the symptoms. I also fitted the catigory when diagnosed..
But it's pointless me "rattling off" until health professionals have looked at you..!

Good luck.

If you were type 1, you'd be pi**ing like a horse every couple of hours, look drawn out in your face and would be throwing up by now. You wouldn't last much more than a couple weeks if you were lucky. Type 1's do not produce any insulin whatsoever and your blood sugar levels would be 30+ after day or two of no insulin. a blood sugar level of 10 after eating would suggest slightly lower levels of insulin production or sensitivity and in my opinion would be able to be controlled by a low carb diet alone, I'd keep an eye on your levels though. A reading of 10 won't cause too many problems short term but 15+ over extended periods will. Just make sure you're hydrated. Record what you eat and your levels to give your doctor a more detailed view of your situation.

Have you seen a cardiologist recently, you mention angina? Are you on any medication for your heart such as calcium channel blockers or to lower your blood pressure? If you're feeling faint when you stand up it sounds like low blood pressure, or possibly anxiety related.

The Symptoms you're describing don't fit any underlying diabetic reasons with the blood glucose levels you're describing, with the exception of someone who's got long term diabetic complications. And gain with your level that seems unlikely.

Time to visit your GP , forget about the the diabetes aspect, and ask him why you're feeling dizzy, faint, experiencing palpitations and angina.
