I got a roasting at the hospital by the doctor today for omitting carbs! She was furious as says I MUST take carbs and use medication to level it. I have now been told I have to monitor my keytones as well and was given a new meter :(

Hi Allys. Next time tell the doctor that there is no evidence whatsoever that you need to have anything other than a very small quantity of carbs each day and that can come from proteins, milk etc. He may say the brain needs carbs and yes it does but not that much and the body is quite capable of providing it when needed as long as you are eating fats, proteins, veg etc. The ignorance amongst some doctors is appalling. If I had had that level of ignorance in my professional engineering job before retirement I would have been sacked. Monitoring your ketones is good in your situation but I hope you will ignore his carbs advice.

I have a dietician's appointment tomorrow, 4 months after I told my Dr I wanted to start low carbing. He said he wanted me to see the dietician and 4 months later I get the appt. Since then I have lost a stone and a half and LCHF has become second nature. I am quite looking forward to verbal boxing tomorrow! :D

what also amazed me is she was going on about how being over weight causes diabetes? I read that that is a lot of rubbish, especially if you have a history in the family?

Hello, just to say my son '17' just been diagnosed with type 1 - he has high levels 21, 23,been 26; up and down levels but we will speak with his support team tomo (today) and I guess they will advise to increase insulin - how much do you inject and what can I do to support my lad, he has become less talkative and withdrawn; we are close family and this is bad times, any advise helping him through this. So many changes is messing his head , just want to make it better and wish I could take it all away.

I would say firstly you have to accept he has one awful illness for a youngster, he has to accept and live with that. I can only imagine the feeling of facing a life ahead with type 1 :(

I am now 45 with type 2 and it has devastated me, I feel like I am at the end of my life and dying. I can only imagine how he feels :(

If there was a magic wand I would magic him a suger free life, but there isn't. He has a hellish infliction that he has to try and deal with (not you). Support and love is without the best way. I wish I could take all diabetes away.

Tell him to consider himself lucky. Lucky?@ Yes lucky. at his age I had psoriasis, all over including my face, I there after discovered I had high blood pressure (very) cholesterol and a hiatus hernia (which has worsened). Then I find out i had hyper diabetes. I have battled with illness most of my life. I know only too well how depressing it is. Nothing you can do or say will reduce that problem or his worries. Only support and love. To top all that I have been an out patient for quite terrible arthritis caused by the psoriasis for over 15 years. Yes 30 years old and I was struggling :(

Just be there for him. He may not want to be stiffled or over provided for, just listen and love him :)
