Hypos, rude people, ignorance and grey days.
I’ve found out this evening that sadly this Facebook group is now closed as Facebook has deemed that it breeched it’s rules.

I’ve personally used this site a number of times to help folk in need who have travelled and forgotten to take kit, this resource was incredibly useful to t1 folk who’ve needed kit when it most counted..

So really this is one big thank you to the people who set this group up as it proved itself invaluable at times however can also see how it may of been exploited at times too by those less honest, such a shame.

Sorry to hear that Juicy.

Sounded like a great resource & network for T1s in a tight spot..

Was there a reason given by the powers that be at FB HQ?

ouch.... shame is that ..........

I am sure if you could create another site it would work but it’s an incredibly hard resource to police and if someone had a complaint and kicked up a stink then Fb would close it down quickly.

Sadly t1 supplies are expensive and anyone unscrupulous could quickly exploit this resource, however as a t1 I know how easy it is to forget or overlook one thing whilst travelling and come unstuck particularly parents of t1 kids who have so much to think about all the time.

Terribly sad..

What a real, real shame.

I can see how someone would want to take advantage of such a great system.
In countries where D supplies are heavily subsidised this is a real problem. I worked with a person from another country, he was over on a special work Visa. He was wanting me to get test strips so he could send them back to his mother and that isn't the first time I have had a similar request. On another occasion a guy I worked with had his sister staying with him, she was from another country for 12 months as she was having assisted reproduction and developed gestational D. As they were not covered for medication he was trying to get Insulin out of me (she had the same prescription as me, Novorapid and Lantus), for me to fill the prescription $60 at the time, for her about $1,200 for approx 6 month supply.

It was shutdown because, apparently, Facebook doesn't allow itself to be used for transferring prescription drugs between users because this is illegal.

I suggest the forum sets up a sub-forum to do this @DCUKMod

Tim, this isn't something I or any of the other Mods could decide upon, eithe individually nor as a team. Anyone liking to propose this should email [email protected] and it will get to the appropriate persons in the bowels of HO.

It could be policed on the basis of members requiring the service to send in a copy of their medical exemption card to prove ID before any requests could be made, most of the requests I saw on the Fb page related to kit rather than insulin so someone had run out of cannulas, sets, strips, as insulin can be requested via an emergency pharmacy so limits could be placed on what’s allowed, food for thought,
