Very well done Zand you really are doing so well. I thought about you this morning and was looking forward to how much weight you would lose this week . You must notice the difference now as it's nearly a stone !

well done both on the weight loss and for standing up for yourself. I was fuming on your behalf reading that. there is clearly no thought behind the weigh in just numbers. if you weighed in different clothes every time you wouldn't know what your actual weight was. I am too disorganised to remember what I was wearing so always weigh myself with no clothes on - but I wouldn't recommend that at SW :)

Just typed a really big response and pressed something and lost it all.
Anyway the short version is that one day you will realise that you have discovered the secret of weight loss and then it will be automatic.
You actually are near this point now you just have to look at what you have done already.
Really proud of you. Be motivated now. Use your success to push you forward.
Just think about buying a whole new wardrobe at the end of it all.
I went from 2xl to M. 40 inch waist to 32.
Big smile on my face buying new cloths. Big dent in the bank balance also but hey its only money.
Keep going....we are all rooting for you.

Thanks so much for all of your comments, they mean a lot to me. Today I am tired, physically, emotionally, mentally tired. I had a late night and didn't wake till 5.45 so I was late for my walk , which meant there were more people around. It was a shorter walk today.

Hubby took me to see Rick Wakeman Journey to the Centre of the Earth last night. Brill. It brought back lots of memories, some good, some not. Being there challenged my perception of my past and I see myself a little differently now. I always thought I had been lazy at school, particularly 6th form. I wasted 2 years playing backgammon, missing lessons and drinking lunchtimes. Looking back now, I can see I was simply unmotivated and depressed. I couldn't cope with criticism from teachers. The harder I tried, the worse it got. So I stopped trying. I finally got my act together 2 weeks before the first exam when I started revising with 2 albums playing continuously from 8 am to 10 pm. One was Journey to the Centre of the Earth, the other was Tubular Bells.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth? Has he made a musical from it? I remember going to see him perform it at the Festival Hall in about 1973/4.

He's just doing a 40th anniversary tour. He was at the NIA Birmingham last night. It was great and the first 'warm up' bit before 'Journey' started included a fantastic version of Eleanor Rigby.... he's ruined the original for me forever!

Thank you for thinking of me Connie. Yes I suppose I am beginning to notice it.....in all the wrong places so far. My hands and wrists are thinner and so is my face. I suppose my jeans are looser, but it's going to be ages before I need a smaller size because they were really tight before.

OK so I have been to SW to be weighed this morning (just to be weighed, I don't hang around for the meetings)

This week I have lost 2.5 pounds, so that's 3.5 pounds since I started this thread.

I am writing the next bit for myself, as a reminder,as well as for you guys.
I know that many people lose more weight than this at the start of a new diet/lifestyle. I am truly pleased for them. I suspect that these are mainly folks who have gradually put on weight over the years and then been stopped in their tracks by a health issue, be it diabetes, high blood pressure, whatever. It isn't like that for me, I have spent so many years doing so very many diets, that my body has learned to go into 'famine mode'. I do not lose weight easily (I hope Metformin really does change this for me). ( I am also getting my vitamin D levels and my thyroid checked again this afternoon.) To illustrate this I am going to repeat something I put on another thread, apologies if you have read it before, but when I have a 'bad week' and don't lose any weight (or even put some on) I will need to remind myself.

In 2007 my son and I had flu. Really bad flu. We didn't eat anything at all for 5 days, managing only to sip water. For the next 5-6 days we ate around 200-400 calories a day, that's all we could manage. After this we weighed. My son, who didn't have any weight to lose at the start of the illness lost 11.5 pounds. I lost 0.5 pounds. This was a turning point for me and I knew I had to stop cutting down on what I ate and find a different way. Dieting was never going to work if I couldn't lose weight when eating nothing at all.

So the fact that I have lost as much as 2.5 pounds in a week is massive for me. I haven't been calorie counting but I know I have been consuming a lot more than 200-400 calories, so my body is working better now. I need to compare myself with me, not with others. If I do the latter it usually ends with a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine. Not this time.[/QUOT

Well done you, thats really great, I've started losing weight on Metformin, but I also take tablet for thyroid, since I increased to 3 metformin a day last month I lost 6.5 pounds in 3 weeks, last week not much change but lost 1 more pound, so attempting to go up to 4 tablets a day as directed
Had a problem with cramps but figured it was low potassium so sorted that with , banana , baked potatoes

Spare motivation? It's taken me 17 years to summon up this much! OK here's something to motivate you. I am resigned to the fact that when I have lost the weight I will probably need an operation to get rid of all the horrid excess skin because my skin is older now and won't shrink back like it would have when I was younger. I notice you are a lot younger than me ......so please do it now before this becomes a problem for you too.

Thanks for that. Yes I am motivated at the moment - while I continue to lose weight. If/when I reach the plateau stage then I will struggle again - I always do, I like to see results and always get very impatient if nothing is happening - that's why I've enlisted you guys this time.
Yes I am looking forward to buying new clothes, and also wearing some favourite old ones too. Smaller jeans would be nice. I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy new dresses and shoes though - maybe this will change when I am smaller. We'll see.

Oh no don't say that. Don't even type that. Your brain will hear you thinking it and might believe you. Positivity all the way :)
