I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes (53 year old Male) but I am still waiting to discover what type, I am currently on insulin though I have been told this could be temporary.

My query is a strange one, I have trapped a nerve over the weekend and in pain on chest and right arm, currently my Libre minitor is in that arm and I have noticed the reading are higher than before with random increases during night, I have been trying to manage the pain with Ibuprofen and volterol will the volterol be affecting the glucose readings?

I am waiting on being referred to a physio

Welcome to the DCUK forums @Stephen PunnA .

Not sure about the volterol but pain and stress is well known for pushing up blood sugar levels. Do you also have a glucometer? Cgms can be inaccurate if you are much out of range.... They can also read low if you lie on them at night....

At the moment they are reading higher than usual, spent a few weeks sorting out diet and so I know what normal al levels I have, due to pain I'm sleeping on my back so not lying on libre

Hi QStephenPunnA Ibuprofen and Volterol are both nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, I could just be reading your post wrong but are you taking both concurrently? They are both performing the same job.

The upshot is that nobody here can offer medical advice. :bookworm:
We can offer some personal experience just now I have a pulled muscle in my left thigh makes it difficult to walk and even harder to sleep through the night I use the above mixture of pain relief as the both do different things I use 400mg Ibuprofen from the chemist and regular 500mg paracetamol( higher is available over the counter). Check with chemist when using both, but taken a couple of hours apart lessens any impact on your digestive system.

The answer to will they be effecting your glucose readings is possible, real depends on the individual. But as diabetics there is concern with how they effect your kidney and heart; and interactions with any other medication you are taking in conjunction with them.

You are waiting for a referral to the physio.:meh:
Again personal experience a referral can take months. If that is the case you can't self medicate with over the counter painkillers prolonged use can impair kidney function, lead to heart complications and effect blood glucose levels.

Best advice is go see your Doctor it may seem a trivial matter to ask for pain killers, but if you feel you may be using them for a prolonged period better to be safer rather than sorry.

Not only are they doing the same job, but I would be careful taking both, if you are, as you could overdose NSAIDs @Stephen PunnA
