Hi all,
I was diagnosed as type 2 about 5 years ago. I was taking S/R Glucophage 4 in the evening nad everything was going really well. January this year I had to have a major hip reconstruction surgery (I am still on crutches and am awaiting a hip replacement on my left hip which is scheduled for August). Before the op my blood sugar was anything between 5.0 and 7.5, then after the op my blood sugar went up to between 8.0 and 9.8. My nurse wasn't overly concerned as I had just had major surgery and as I cannot put my full weight through my leg I am not as active as I was. A week later however , I noticed my blood sugar count creeping up to 11.0, so I went back to the nurse and she started me on Januvia to take with my metformin. My blood sugar continued to rise and is now about 12.0 to 13.0 first thing in the morning and can be anything up to 16.0 2 hours after a meal. I went back to my nurse again and suggested I tried going back on to the normal metformin, she agreed and I now take 3 x 850g a day. It has made no difference! I stopped taking the Januvia for a couple of days to see if it made a difference and it made no difference at all. My blood sugar had not gone up or down. I do not get any typical symptons like needing to drink a lot etc. I watch what I eat...I am overweight ,but is down to not being able to exercise enough due to condition of my hips. I am on a few painkillers and an antiinflammatory. Any advice appreciated as I need to get my blood sugar down before my next op!
