Yes I'm basal/bolus. My consultant gave me set amounts insulin for each meal and for long acting. He gave me no knowledge of how to change my insulin to suit different meals. My dietician showed me the book with the different typical food plates and was telling me that I was taking too much insulin in regards to what I was eating. There has been no clear communication of how to manage this at all. Recording everything and counting the carbs today and have manages to get down from 19.8 to 11.2. Just trying to work out ratio. Doing 1 unit to 10g carbs at minHi. Can I assume you are on the Basal/Bolus regime? Have you had guidance on getting the Basal balance right? When you say you have difficulty with carb counting is that with trying to work out the carbs in the foods you eat so you can set the best Bolus dose? We all have that problem to varying degrees particularly when eating out. Your figures imply you may not be taking enough insulin but I can only guess. Getting the Basal balance right is the first action. The normal Bolus ratio start point is 1 unit to 10gm of carbs and then tweaking that for your own body. Estimating the carbs in any meal is covered in various books. My DN gave me Roche leaflet when I started insulin which shows pictures of typical food plates and their carb content. After that it is guesswork I'm afraid.
