Hi all!
I have just woken up and checked my libre app. It says I was in a consistent hypo from before midnight until around 5am with literally no rise. I was wondering if this is possible. I had absolutely no symptoms and when I finger pricked before bed at 10.30 pm I was at a 7.1. I had no symptoms as I woke at 2am and 5am (I stupidly didn’t finger prick as I felt fine). I was just wondering if this is potentially just my libre being inaccurate as I know from experience that it can be quite wrong or whether it really is possible to hypo for 5 hours straight?!

Unfortunately there is no clear way to know unless you fingerprick to test. It could be a multitude of things such as a compression low, reading lower than you were or you were actually that low.

Pre-insulin pump I was someone who had hypos overnight for hours so it’s definitely possible but again without testing you won’t know 100% for sure.

Yeah it’s a tricky one. It has just told me I’m having another hypo but a finger prick is coming out at 5.9 so I’m not convinced it’s correct. I only changed the sensor last night as my previous one fell off and the second it started working it said I was in hypo. Just doesn’t make sense with my sugar intake yesterday

I use a dexcom and not a libre but my understanding is that sensors can read low while they are bedding in, because your body is reacting to the sensor....

My current sensor is definitely reading lower then they usually do. I’ll be pleased to change it out in a couple of days. Like yours suggests i seem to have spent several hours in hypo several nights this fortnight. I’ve done several fingerpricks to double check and most of the time ive been 1-2mmol higher if not more!

Compression lows are common with wearing sensors - I wear mine on the back of my arm and if lying on it then it will show a dip, go by how your actually feeling if you don’t wake to check with a BG test.

You may not have been hypo, @chambers0508, it may just be the sensor’s not yet bedded in and become accurate (ish). I know I need to do frequent blood tests in the first two days of a new sensor as it takes 48 hours to bed in and settle.

Hi, Sounds like a compression low, have had these before and they are a nightmare.

Hi, have you set the alarm alert of your app to tell you that the level is going below 4?
I have sometimes missed the alarm alert at night when I have been in deep sleep, and noticed later that I was in hypo for an hour or so, but then it went back up into normal range.

I find that the Libre is always a little lower than actual bs , try setting low alarm at 4.1 it’ll give u a pre warning so you don’t actually go hypo , as soon as I get my low alarm I take some quick acting sugar even though I’m not actually hypo

They happened but are not a nightmare if you find the best place to put your sensor or if you can ”train” yourself not to sleep on it.
It should also be noted that they are not a Libre problem - they could be a problem with all CGMs as it s a “fault” with physics. Hence the need for CGM users to find a way that avoids each of us to minimise these.
