I'm newly diagnosed but have received a wealth of information from the articles on this forum and from those kind enough to answer my posts.

I have had a look at your website and would like to pass a few comments if I may.

Firstly, having read posts from people here, I am wary of any site that proclaims in large letters:

ARE YOU AT RISK OF DEVELOPING DIABETES?

OVERWEIGHT?
POOR DIET?
LACK OF EXERCISE?

1) Who exactly is this statement addressed to? Guess it's not type 1's so it must be the type 2's! Now you must know that there are many type 2's that do not fit this description..pretty poor judgement in categorising folk like this.

2) Can you tell me more about the qualifications in Diabetic Counselling? I have never heard of it and would like to know more.

3) An extract from Suicide by Sugar and a page worth telling us what a danger it is. Hmm. Yes, well...

4) A large and comprehensive list of blood testing meters, all I assume must have been tested by you Kris personally as your wife doesn't have Diabetes and you don't mention other staff members?

5) It's all so ...vague. You offer support but don't say how, say you don't offer a medical service (fair enough) but then say you will be covering topics such as erectile dysfunction and kidneys?

6) Looks like all this information doesn't come for free. Curious to see the level of costs involved for your services especially as you seem to be working primarily with business clients?

Thanks

Having had a superb counsellor and still have...and having read the website...I find it nothing like the superb help I have had from my Counsellor.....

First off....A good Counsellor does not tell you your problems or what you are worried about....if you think you are helping diabetics...the points that you mention aren't the main causes of needing a counsellor when diabetic.

Good Counselling is done on a one to one basis, the Counsellor does not know you, has no pre made assumptions of you, your life style, your living etc...they listen to you and give you options and ideas and discuss things with you....

Your website doesn't do any of this.....I am actually quite annoyed by this, because life and it's problems aren't all to do with diabetes.....there are huge other factors that complicate our life's....and a forum like this is much more helpful than a set up like you have done.....and tried to advertise...

No professional counselor would send personal mails saying your pathetic :?:

SO BOWELL YOU ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE INSULIN, YOUR OTHER MEDICATION, OR SEE A DOCTOR BECAUSE I HATE TO TELL YOU THIS BUT YOU ARE BEING PATHETIC THAT THEY ARE PAID. PERHAPS IF YOU WERE NOT SO BITTER YOU WOULD NOT WRITE SUCH STUPIDLY PATHETIC COMMENTS BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS THE FEW. I SUGGEST THAT YOU ARRANGE TO SEE A DOCTOR AND GET SOME PSYCHIATRIC COUNSELLING,

Ummmm Interesting , You seem so upset Listen to some music it may calm you down old boy

Dear Kris

I appear to have hit a nerve! I would suggest that if you are running a business then you should become more open to questions and constructive criticism when it comes your way.

If you are advertising counselling then I or anyone else has the right to ask if you have any qualifications in it! It is not up to me to hunt around looking at the School of Natural Science, it is up to you to provide truthful information when asked a reasonable question. I do wonder why this appears to annoy you but anyway..

Thing is Kris, I am giving you feedback and asking you pertinent questions to what YOU posted on this website. Seems like you have joined here purely for the purpose of drumming up business for yourself. I'm guessing that you and your good wife are more than aware that scare tactics are sensationalist and rarely work but you have them on your site.
You also peddle the myth that is is only sedentary, obese people at risk of Diabetes..as someone who has Diabetes himself surely you know that it can happen to anyone..that fact has been documented very well on this forum.

I am newly diagnosed, my husband has type 2 and my 20 year old daughter is an insulin dependant type 2 with complications. There are many here who have had this condition for many years so I think you may find you are preaching to those who know their stuff.

I am giving you my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. I do not have to email you through your site as you came to this FREE site which is most definitely providing me with a FREE service to advertise yours. Perhaps you should think about that before you criticise me. 8)

My feeling with what is on your site and your reaction to my perfectly reasonable questions here tells me that your service may not be all it's cracked up to be but then that is for the individual to decide for themselves. Just bear in mind that when you advertise specific services you need to have the qualifications to back yourself up and the aforesaid qualifications should be freely available for anyone to see on the general website..if not you may find yourself in a bit of trouble.

Donnellysdogs has summed the couselling aspect up very nicely.

Hello Everyone ,

I am amazed that a fellow human being would try and take advantage out of my fragile state and condition!!!

My current situation has not improved I am tired and no motivation however have contacted the doctor regarding DAFNE though they have said the one closest to me is the CHOICE programme.

Stomach massively bloated , knees extremely sore and terrible trouble going to loo ( 45 minutes min )

Really hard to know where to start

Hi megan
RE
Constipation i suffered with this for a bit just like concrete and now have it under my control
I dont know what pain killers your taking BUT if its an opiate likes of tramadol or morphine
Can bung you up in a real Nasty way .

The fix i use and given me by current GP is Lactose liquid 10m with breakfast this acts to soften the stools as opiates do dry your stools out ,
Next Senokot with lunch to get movement going as opiate pain killers can slow the movement down in your bowels ,, Now you know why have that web name
This is not a one time fix need to take it every day or as long as pain killers

The stuff that you mix with water always bloated me right up did no good at all

if your not on opiate pain killers forget all above

Ask you GP for Proper help with Constipation
http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Constipation/Pages/Introduction.aspx

Just letting you know what worked and still works with me

Hi

The 'choice' course should still give you some advice that you should find beneficial, do you know how long it will take to get on this course?

What are your BG's currently running at? Are they fluctuating more than 3mmol in either direction?

I have never suffered from any troubles with bowels or bloating so I am really stumped on this...are these feelings and problems occuring everyday, or could they possibly be linked with say gluten, or wheat...or any other foods that you eat...are there any days that you don't feel like this?

Just re-reading the details of the posting that you have put on here....perhaps you could list what foods and snacks that you are eating...I know that you are taking novorapid 2 times a day...but you also say you are snacking......and with not so healthy snacks. Do you have to snack to just keep your levels raised...or are you snacking out of habit?

I know that you complain of problems with legs, bloating etc, but exercise is important in some way or another...are you able to go to a swimming pool to take the pressure off your legs for an hour? Are you able to do exercises from a chair, using the back of a chair etc? Exercise in one shape or another is possible for everybody unless suffering from paralysis....even then physio's will be involved in keeping limbs etc moving....I suffer from chronic pain in my legs, spine and face sometimes....I have a new thought on this from having the pain in my face....if I can still manage to eat soup and talk when I have pain in my face then it doesn't matter how much pain I am in with my legs and spine-then I am still capable of taking some form of exercise.......Yes with the pain in my face I can't talk so much.....(to my husbands relief!!!), but I can still manage some....I have never let my dogs go without their walks...so you really must find some form of exercise that you can manage...

Hi Everyone,
I am pretty new to this forum, but from what I am reading here I would suggest that a trip to the IDDT site might help several of you out. I am not involved in this charity at all; I am only someone who has benefited from the advice available there.
I am a nutritional therapist as I mentioned before, but I am not advertising my services here before you jump on my case. I just took this path because I could not make any headway with my health via the normal medical route.
My health has improved dramatically since implementing what I have learnt and changing back to animal insulin. Also attending the DAFNE course helped a lot too. Even though the strategies taught suit the modern GM and analogue insulin it was initiated 30 years ago with animal insulin.
Many diabetics experience weird symptoms that neither they nor their medical advisers can resolve; the only thing that is never taken into consideration is reactions to modern insulin. When you visit the IDDT site you will find a list of symptoms and you can see if any of your symptoms could be associated with the insulin you are on. I would still say this is the first step to take, then look at your diet and lifestyle and go on the DAFNE course. As said previously you can find a qualified and registered nutritional therapist in your area on the Bant.org site.

Hello I have been Diabetic since August 1993 and have type 1. I have fluctuating diabetes and suffer from severe depression , fatigue and severe daily bloating and constipation. I have been to GP several times for help however have got nowhere. I can't sleep well at night , are constantly tired have daily sore heads , poor concentration , poor memory , painful fingers hard to grasp , bloated stomach , heavy constipation , sore kness, sore legs and extremely tender sore feet. What do I do and where do I start ? I am extremely desperate as every day is a nightmare like groundhog day :(

I've not read all the posts so this might have been mentioned already and I might have missed something you said..

But have you been tested for coelic disease at all?

I would agree that some of these symptoms can be associated with human insulin namely Lantus more than the others, but a lot are also constent coelic disease which probably needs ruling out before looking into animal insulins, as if this is the problem, then a change to animal isn't going to resolve..

I have tried that coeliac issue with no real success but not sure I was doing correct as no energy or motivation to do it. How do I do this and how to I cut out snacking.

Hi Megan,

I have done teh CHOICE course, and it was fabulous, and really helped.

Just a quick question, and it may be my ignorance, but why do you have novorapid twice a day? It is more normal (if you eat lunch anyway) to have it 3 times a day...more if you snack? Of course, we are all different, and I am not suggesting you should start injecting more insulin without guiadnace, but I was curious?

I was another one who wondered about the "coelic" question,

take care

Hi Megan

Coeliac disease nearly always manifests itself with causing anaemia, very loose stools and gives the sufferer plenty of flatulence when passing a motion. The only valid way to detect it is by having an endoscopy. Usually though, a colonoscopy is done first to rule out any other cause. People have to avoid anything with gluten in it once the disease is diagnosed.

If you suffer from bad depression, do you take anti depressants at all. Many anti depressants that have a anticholinergic effect, will cause dry mouth, sedation, bloating, difficulty in passing urine and constipation.

Have a look to see if any of the medication you might be taking could be causing you to feel the way you do.

Hello ,

I had x rays and a barium enema which showed nothing how do I go about getting an endoscopy as my GP's really react poorly when asking for help.

Just had x rays on knees and have arthritis. Fingers and feet click all the time.

I take 2 injections as don't always eat lunch plus running out of places to take injections I bleed after every injection

No lucnh, no injection...makes perfect sense, but I know for me, there is no way I could even hope to control my diabetes if I didn't take some insulin, everytime I ate more than 10 grams of carbohydrate.

The DAFNE/CHOICES course (I have my fingers crossed that you can go soon!) is fantastic, and they help you work out a ratio between the carbs you eat, and the insulin you need. It is great, and allows you more freedom...but, does mean that you have to do more injections.

re the bleeding, are you using the really small needles (think 4 mm???) this may help, if not solve the problem...it could be, that once you have done the cChoics course, they may decide that you are an ideal candidate for a pump? Best of luck.

Hi Megan,
Which part of the country do you live in? I dont want to know where you live just the area as I have contacted my diabetic specialist nurse, who is absolutley fantastic, about the CHOICE course, and this is her reply.

"Hi Lynn, I've never heard of it and neither has Paul so it is probably a basic carb counting course run locally in that area. Where does the person live? He/she can ask to get referred to a DAFNE course elsewhere if they are willing to travel".

If you want any more information please contact me, but a lot of your symptoms really sound like insulin side effects and diet and lifestyle problems, and from my experience this is the order I would attack them. Blood sugar imbalance causes a hugh variety of symptoms in the none diabetic population, let alone us type 1's. There is so much you can do to alleiviate the symptoms you are experiencing, none of them are magic bullets I am afraid, and they all need your imput, but then if you are looking for a magic pill you will have to go pharmaceutical and be prepared to accept that all of these have side effects.
By the way are you on statins?

I live in Derry Northern Ireland. I would rather not have to travel due to the way I feel just now as DAFNE courses are a while away and don't start until October. I am in a dark place as everything seems all over the place. I take Lipitor. I am really tired , bloated and sore. I have appointment on Tuesday for CHOICE
