Hi,

I had my annual test done. I'd be grateful if you could explain what the results mean.

For my urine albumin:creatinine ration I've got "abnormal - no action".

The number's are in the mmol/L and it's not corresponding to my attempts at seraching Google. I'm confused. Anyway, here are the results:

Urine creatinine - 18.7mmol/L
Urine albumin - 27mg/L
Urine albumin:creatinine ration - 1.4mg/mmol

I also have a renal profile results (which I thought was also for kidneys?)...which came back as "normal" all items within the ranges given.....and that result includes

serum creatinine - 69umol/L

Would be grateful for your help in understanding the results.

Also as a side note for the first time my Hba1 C result was on the high side of 52 :(

I'm depressed.

Thank you to those who reply :)

Hi,

here is a place that does conversions between mg/dL and Umol and covers all the items you mention above

http://www.endmemo.com/medical/unitconvert/Creatinine.php

just select the require test

Here is a site which sets out the normal ranges with an indication of what an out of range figure means
https://www.newportnaturalhealth.com/2012/08/a-guide-to-understanding-blood-tests/

serum creatinine of 69 umol translates to 0.78 mg.dl for
"Healthy range: 0.5 to 1.1 mg/dL for women; 0.6 to 1.2 mg/dL for men (the elderly may be slightly lower)
The kidneys process this waste product, so elevations could indicate a problem with kidney function."
i.e. you are in the healthy range

cheers

here is a discussion of the urine albumin/ creatinine ratios - which you can use to follow up the results you got .

In practice a diagnosis of " abnormal " range for this ratio is precisely the same as for the diabetes - ie tight control of blood sugars, reducing weight and reducing blood pressure .

That's possibly why "no action" is the result - as its the same action as he will already be advising you

The urine albumin:creatine ratio is used to detect microalbuminuria which is a sign of kidney disease.
Microalbuminuria is defined as a raised ACR which is ≥3.5 mg/mmol (female) or ≥2.5 mg/mmol (male). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microalbuminuria

Your result of 1.4mg/mmol is not raised, in fact it is low which is why it has been labelled abnormal. However, very low values generally indicate that kidney function is normal if other tests of kidney function, e.g. the glomerular filtration rate, also show no abnormality.

As your renal profile was normal, this would be why no action is needed. A very low ACR value probably means your kidneys are functioning normally.
