my main problem is snacking in evenings as DH drives taxis, 4 year old daughter is in bed and it's me and the snacks cupboard!!! We go to Ibiza in 9 weeks and my weight has crept up and up and is a bit scary now. I want fast results and a friend has lost 12lbs in 2 weeks no carbs but I know that isn't advisable. Any helpful advice to start getting big results and kick starting back into shape? X

Go lower carb... But chuck out the carby snacks. At the end of the day.. You are what you eat..

I take it you are ok with adjusting your insulin as necessary?

Occupy your time more. For every snack you would think about eating go and walk up and down the stairs once, if you think about a snack again then walk the stairs up n down twice.. Everytime increasing how many times you have to do it.

I low carbed for majority of my 50+ yearss.. Nothing wrong with it providing you can adjust your insulin if needed.

I found myself overweight around 2 weeks ago after a period of neglect and went 'back to basics' to drop the unwanted kg's. I've dropped almost 5 kgs by increasing exercise, no carbs , restricting calories and no snacking. When I get hunger pains, mainly in the evening, I chew some chewing gum and when I get carb cravings I do press-ups. It's all about self discipline and you have to suffer to achieve good results quickly.

first thing to do is swap all the bad snacks and/or hide them! losing or gaining weight very quickly is not only imo dangerous, the second you start eating properly again you gain the weight back and more...

If you snack because you're bored, find something you like doing and do it - reading, knitting, crochet, drawing, making jewellery, woodwork (OK, I'm running out of suggestions but you'll find something!)

If you snack because you're peckish, have a drink (no, not alcohol!). Sometimes when we feel hungry we're actually dehydrated. When I'm trying to lose weight I tend to drink lots of tea (decaf these days!) and find this helps the hunger pangs.

Do you like celery? Apparently it has less calories than the body uses to digest it. Sometimes I snack on sliced celery with a little low fat humus.

You should aim to lose about 1 or 2 pounds per week. As said above, losing a lot of weight in a short period of time isn't a good idea. Cutting down carbs with appropriate reduction in bolus is good. Cutting out carbs isn't necessary. And of course exercise is excellent.
Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your advise and support, I've gotten rid if all the snacks and plan to start my exercise dvd tonight. x
