Help with Diabetes diagnosis

Messages

Hi,
I am 25 and class myself as fit and eat healthily.

Recently I have found myself losing weight quite significantly and a number of people have noticed this. I haven'tchanged my diet and consider my diet as very varied and reasonably healthy.

I also find myself urinating much more frequently to the point that I have had to put a bottle in my bed room so that I dont have to walk the whole house in the middle of the night to get to the toilet.

I also feel very tired and run down, sometomes to the point that its an effort to walk and I feel that i'm forcing myself.

Would anyone be able to offer any advice? I dont want to waste the GPs time and also dont want to take time off work if not necessary but other people have said that this maybe signs of diabetes.

Your thoughts please?

Thanks!

Hi.

Just came by your post,i am probably not the best person to answer this.

My son was diagnosed in november last year so it's all still really new. Your symptoms could be a number of things i guess.
But if you want to rule out diabetes without taking time off work maybe you could buy a cheap blood glucose meter from boots.

If you know anyone with one you could simply to the finger prick test you will be looking for normal levels of 4-7 anything above that go to your GP.

Sorry i can't be anymore help but you will find lots of great people on here to give advice.

This is a link to a cheap meter in boots.

Hi. I would see a doctor and tell him exactly what you have said here. As its the weekend now, you could pop into the pharmacy and see if the do a diabetes test? I've noticed lots of pharmacies do this nowadays, even the ones in supermarkets - it's a quick 2 second finger prick test. It may not be, try not to worry, and come back and tell us how you get on.

Hi. I would definitely go to the doc as these signs could indicate late onset diabetes Type 1 at your young age. You need a diabetes GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) to help a diagnosis. A high street pharmacy check or even buying a meter will help.
