I am at my wits end with my GP surgery. And they are playing with my life and it's not funny. Let's start at the beginning!!! I get my prescription on a monthly repeat which get collected by the pharmacy each month. When I collected my prescription on the 28th August my insulin wasn't there and when I asked they told me the it wasn't due for another week. So on Friday I went to the pharmacy and was told that there wasn't any prescription for me for my insulin. So they put in a request for it and the prescription would be ready lunch time on Tuesday. So Tuesday afternoon arrives and I go to the pharmacy an get told the doctors refused me my prescription for insulin as I had already had it. So I asked the pharmacist to check on the system when I had had the insulin and the last time I was issued with insulin was the 6th of August. So at this oping the pharmacist was horrified and rang the doctors surgery and spoke to someone. And they printed out the prescription there and then and would be there for the pharmacy to collect today so I can pick up insulin lunch time today. So I got my other half to go in to get my insulin for me as I thought it would be there. But no it wasn't as the doctor hadn't signed the prescription. So I rang the surgery this evening to put in an official complaint but the practice manager had gone home. But my prescription was ready for me to collect at last. Now to where I am asking advice is is there someone I can complain to about the gp surgery??? And does anyone else have these sorts of problems???

Towards the bottom of this page, you will find out how to complain. The first thing to do though is raise the issue, in writing, with the practice and keep a copy of the letter. They should reply. If they don't, you can go onto the next level and make it official but you should give the practice the opportunity of rectifying the issue first.

In an emergency, you can present at A&E. Your GP practice get a bill for £78 for that and they don't like getting those bills. If you don't get a satisfactory answer from your GP, you could let them know, indirectly, that if it happens again, that is what you'll do.

The Practice should have anotice ip as to their specific complaints procedure and it should be on their website too.

I'm very sad to hear that you have been given so much grief by people that are meant to be helping you. I'm shocked and horrified that a GP can be so stupid as to say something like "you've already had it" or was it a member of staff and that's just as bad because they should be well aware that you need insulin to live. It wouldn't be nice if you had to turn up at A&E, but it would certainly wake up your own surgery. Apart from finding a different surgery, not always easy or even the best idea, I wish you all the best. Do let them know in no uncertain terms that you're not happy and that you do not expect a repeat performance.
