Hi
Yesterday i went to docs because my bloods were 16-23mmol after christmas i should have taking meds but up until xmas i was doing ok.

Im back on med (gliczide) but my doc said i should also b takeing 1 metformin slow release in evening.

This morning i had a meal replacement and 1 gliczide and by about 10am my bloods had shot up and i had shakes, nausea.
What should do when i have something like this?

I decided to go for a fast walk which made me feel a little better and bloods have dropped but i seem to always have problem when on meds but is the worst

Any advice

Hi. Metformin is a good safe drug to help a bit with blood sugar so I would follow the GPs advice. Gliclazide should either reduce your blood sugar or have little effect if your pancreas has failed a lot. Can I ask whether you are overweight or slim and how old? If you are slim and your bs remains high even with the Gliclazide then discuss with the GP whether your diagnosis should be T1 and not T2. I assume you have cut the carbs down in your diet? Gliclazide dosage can vary between 40mg and 320mg per day so again discuss dosage with the GP. If the dosage is too high you may go hypo so be careful and follow GP advice.

Ditch the carbs and the meal replacement until more settled.
Xmas carbs are very obstructive to good maintenance.

Go back to basic foods minus porridge, wholemeal bread and brown rice and any kind of pasta and test test and test.
Reintroduce your backbone carbs once ideal weight and perfect hba1c.

Try eggs, chicken, fish and vegetable dishes minus rice pasta, bread or potato.
Test regularly.

How did you do things to get rid of meds first time? Do same again?

Hi
Thanks
Yes im about 4stone over weight
I have over indulged over xmas and i have been haveing protien bread (no more) this was the main colprite.
I found going for a walk bring bs down.
I went on gliczide because i didnt get on with metformin.
Im able to bring bs down with glic, diet, excercise.
As i also suffer from ibs now and again i just havent been feeling to good and when i saw my bs was 23.5 i was shakeing and dizzy (this was the highest in 2years when first)
I went for a long walk earlier and bloods are now 8.7 (still a little high)
I have been stressing out by all of this diabeties things im going to see about haveing kidneys checked.
I sertainly dont want to have these episodes again so once better i WILL be back training

P.s.
I dont know about u guys but i just dont know what to think when your ill
Is it a virus?
Is it your diabeties?
Is it ibs
Is it medication
Is it stress etc

And this is what is happening to me
Perhaps i should let some of my jobs go as i have 7 part time jobs, perhaps this is not helping

Oh @steveis36 .

I'm sorry this has made you cry.

Don't get upset get mean with those bgs. Drop the carbs and see how liberated you feel, high bgs will definitely run away.

Are you sad because of all the hard work needed?
Once you get back into a good routine it will feel easier.

There's no shame in needing meds to gave perfect control. Then try and ditch meds little at a time, if that's your aim.
Or just manage your diabetes exceptionally well on meds. The choice is yours.

Don't stress yourself out about this. Kick your diabetes into touch and you'll feel a of less upset. You will be in charge of this very naughty, at times stubborn disease.

Stressing about diabetes can sometimes be counter productive. I know, believe me.

You could try and find some destressing techniques too. I used to use swimming but cold water swimming very counter productive for my bulging discs.

Get your thinking cap on and find something you really enjoy. Dancing or similar?
