Hi there, I had 2 cups of latte with 3 sugars in each cup this morning at 8am, I checked my sugar levels at 10.30am and they came back at 9.8mmol, is this a very high reading??

I no it should be between 5/7 mmom....

Should it of been that high over two hours after drinking two lattes??

Any help appreciated:)

Do you have diabetes? According to your profile you don't but I would have though those numbers are too high for someone without.. :?

Hi,

Your test result is high.

Could you try sweeteners instead of the sugar to see whether that makes a difference? Splenda tablets are a quite pleasant beverage sweetener.

There is a lot of milk in a Latte 2 lattes are about 2/3 of a pint of milk probably and milk is quite high carbs (something like 15g of carbs). Then you have 6 sugars ... which is a real no no and equals 30g of carbs. I am not at all surprised you have these high numbers.

Hi, no I don't have diabetes that I no of....

The reason I checked my sugar levels is that I have a few symptoms like sore eyes, bloated stomach, bad circulation on feet, skin problems etc....

Do you think I have a chance of having it??

I got tested last year after fasting and I was 5.8mmol

Hi. If you are a diganosed diabetic you should definitely not be having ANY sugar in your lattes with a reading of 9.8. If you are not yet diagnosed it may be that you are pre-diabetic and possibly should get some tests done. In the meantime I suggest using sweetners rather than sugar as you do have some sugar intolerance.

Hi. A fasting test is not a good test for diabetes by itself. The better test is a GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) or an Hba1c blood test. Yes, I think you may have diabetes so do go to see your GP for more tests.

Hi, I think I have been tested last year for the Hba1c, I will fish it out and let u no the reading, thanks

Your last year fasting test of 5.8 should have been reported to you as being pre-diabetic as 5.5 is the beginning of being pre-diabetic range see http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/fasting-blood-sugar-levels.html.

When you had the test last year didn't your doctor say your levels were raised and give you any advice. I would go get tested again ...

Firstly for a diabetic an hBA1c of 39 is excellent. For a non diabetic I'd describe it as raised as the non diabetic range runs up to 42. At 39 your levels are averaging 7.0 mmol/l so within safety but only just ...

As to HGH then according to here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_sugar_regulation then HGH will raise levels but it doesn't say how much.

Thanks for that valuable info....

When I done the HbA1c test, it was at 08:38am and there was no fasting as it was a routine test with others, so I probably would of had a couple of coffees with sugar, so would the coffee of changed the results?

HBA1c will measure your average level over the last 3 months or so but the majority of its score comes from what you've been up to into the last month.

Hi. First the HBa1c test provides an average blood sugar over the last 2-3 months and is a non-fasting test i.e. it doesn't matter what you eat/drink beofre it. The recent 9.8 reading indicates that the insulin in your body is for whatever reason not bringing your sugar levels down to the 5-6'ish normal range. Normally you would measure 2 hours after a meal. If the 9.8. was at a shorter time it is indeterminate. Some would call that poor sugar control, some would say that might be pre-diabetic etc. It all indicates the need for more recent tests. My diabetes came on very quickly so it's possible a more up to date HBa1ic would give you a different result from your previous one?
