Type of diabetes
Type 1
Currently on holiday in australia. My diabetes has been fine since I got here 2 weeks ago till Monday. Mon & tue it kept dropping for no reason the whole 2 days then on wed its went the opposite & has been really high. Started having pains down at my ovarys on my left hand side Monday by thu ended up in hosp it was that bad. Don't know if that's what's caused my levels to be so up & down but yest morn & this morn I've woke up my bs is at 17 :0 it was 10 before bed so took an extra shot of insulin to reduce it but still woke up at 17. My bs are always between 5&6 so I'm very worried. I usually inject in my arms but past couple times I've done this feels like a lot has cane back out & running down my arm which isn't right so been doing it in my tummy. Can anyone help? Thanks x

If you see som of the insulin on your skin after injecting that is an indication that you are not receiving the full dose. You may have insufficient sub-cutaneous fat on your arms or the is a problem in the way you deliver the shot. I would discuss this with a diabetic nurse.

I have always injected in the stomach area and always leave the needle in place for a couple of seconds after the shot. Although now using a pump.

Temperature can change the absorption rate of insulin but warm weather normally speeds it up rather than the opposite.

It's hard to advise without knowing the changes you have made to eating (timings and food) and activity levels while on holiday.

It is also possible that the insulin in the pen has gone off by getting too hot and become ineffective.

Or too cold if stored in the hold of an aeroplane, was all your insulin kept in your hand luggage?
