HI i was diagnosed in jan this year and it has been a bit of a roller coaster. I am 47 and to be told i was type 1 at this age was a shock to the system .Well it is now 11month down the line and have been told i am LADA and have have noticed in the last month my levels are starting to go up. My question is all tho the go up they will come down again if i don't take my insulin but is this doing any harm to me .
I did not take my night time insulin for a week and morning readings were 7 to 8 in the morning and during the day readings were getting higher to the point i had a high reading of 16 one day .so i no the night time jag is working it is the day ones i am finding hard to get right .
I am on for the day time novorapid and lantus at night 10 units..
so any advice would be a great help

Exactly same as me. Age 47, diagnosed T1 Jan this year. Takes a bit of getting used to eh ! I am on slightly different insulin though, I take basal and Humalog with each meal. I count carbs and inject accordingly. To be honest, I think I'm lucky and find it a bit easy but may still be in the honeymoon period. Have you asked about getting on a DAFNE course ? I hear they are very good and make a big difference to diabetes control.

i did but was told had to wait a year before they put you on it
my big problem was i was taking next to no insulin during the summer as i was doing a lot of cycling so it was helping keep the levels under control but think that is coming to a end.

Yes, exercise makes a big difference to insulin requirements. Not sure on DAFNE waiting time, my course starts in 2 weeks. Can you email your nurse and ask for guidance ? If not, increase your insulin by 1 unit at a time and monitor closely until you get targeted results.

i have emailed her but all they say is reduce my night time dose down to 10 i was taking 12 before .And yes exercise dose make a big difference last time i say the doctor he said i was my own worst enemy because if i did not watch what i was eating and drunk beer and weight 22stone i would been a stable amount of insulin by now
don't no about you but i have lost over a stone in weight and no sign of it going back on not that i won't it too
Please let me no how you get on with the course if it is worth doing

The DAFNE course is definitely worth doing so if I was you I would keep asking. I didn't go on it till I had been a type 1 for about 10 years because it didn't know about them. However I found it really helpful to calculate how much insulin to take.

Exercise does of course result in changes to blood sugars and can be a bit of a pain if it results in hypos but as it is good for you i would definitely keep doing it (& it sounds like you will :)
