Hi..I wonder if anyone can help me with a question? My 81year old mother-in-law has just been discharged from hospital diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. As we live in Turkey the doctors are not as forthcoming with advice and explnations as I am used to back in the UK. We were given two different kinds of insulin injections (one morning and one before ed), an oral insulin tablet (taken twice a day) and a tablet to bring down high blood pressure and a diet of sugarless food. My mother-in-law, whilst in hospital started to look better after they started administering insulin but on the day she was discharged she started to look bad again, acting confused etc. The hospital said her blood sugar was down to an acceptable level (it was 33 before). My question is, since she has been home she has not been able to hold anything down after eating, she is not aware of needing to go to the toilet etc. Is this a side effect of the insulin, perhaps? We have phoned the doctor who is not very helpful. We do not have anyway of measuring her blood sugars. The doctor has told us to continue with the insulin (20 units in the morning and 10 units at night), and to take her back for control in a weeks time. Can someone advise us as to what we should do!
