Type of diabetes
Type 2
Diagnosed 2 years ago at 22.6 (wasn't overweight) and after cutting out a lot of carbs did get it down....still not brilliant....was between 8 and 12 two hours after meals. GP happy with that after it being so high. Will admit to lapsing a bit after changing jobs....too many goodies and too little willpower. However, for last 6 weeks or more being really strict....even knocked the weetabix in thr head in favour of scrambled eggs but just canmot get.my bg down at any time if day...lowest it's been is about 12.3 and today going between 12.3 and 16. Feel exaspetated as eating hardly any carbs. Had banging headache all aftetnoon and thirsty.

HI Caz_B, that sounds really frustrating. a visit to the doc sounds like the most sensible option ... good luck, and keep us posted.

Hi,
Are you on any Medes or just diet? Those levels are too high. Congratulations on breaking the weatabix habit!

Not in meds. Was on Metformin to start but upset my tum so came off it, and there was no difference to my bg readings. I've read that Metformin. I had scrambled eggs for brekky yesterday but was 16 two hours aftet, protein roll and cheese for lunch..two hours after was 12.3....dinner time i had some berries and cream.....14 two hours later and mid eveninv i had KFC chicken and 6 french fries... i took virtually all the coating off the chicken....two hours later was 15.3. I have got a bit of a cold but been high readings for weeks. I don't think i ate that much carb but still high. Fasting reading today 13.3. Off to dics at 4.15! X

Only thing this week is i've not been able to do any exercise ie go out on my bike

Will need to go back to the Docs who will no doubt put you on medication.

IF you are put back on Metformin, get the slow release version, alot better on the tum although still takes some time to get used to and remember it doesnt work straight away, needs to get in your system - don't slack off on the carbs either and GOOD LUCK !!!

I think the other thing to remember about medication is that going onto any diabetes drug be it metformin, a sulfonylurea or any other is not a sign of failure or a one way street - they can help normalise blood sugars and that normalisation can be built on with dietary / other life style changes sufficiently to either come off the medication or else keep it a lower dose

Hi testing before meal & 2 hrs after first bite should show what spikes you, could also be drinks. Hopefully dr will get you sorted soon

It's worth considering the possibility of being LADA and coming to the end of your honeymoon period.
For over 4 years low carb delivered me HbA1cs ranging from 42 to 50 then I felt terrible for some weeks, and my HbA1c went to 102. A referral to the local Diabetes Clinic and starting on insulin then returned me to feeling 'normal'.
Are you losing weight ?
Geoff

Since being strict over last 6 or so weeks have lost a few pounds but that's all. I've never been overweight....when i was diagnosed i was in the high end of what is normal for my height whereas now i've dropped from a 16/14 to a 14. I doubt i would lose weight as am 53 and no doubt in the menopause. Xc

I was looking for some unexplained type 1 related weight loss which type ones and LADAs can experience before diagnosis e.g. in the two months of feeling lousy, and before going on insulin, I lost a stone.
Latent
Autoimmune
Diabetes in
Adults
Type 1 used to be called 'juvenile onset'.
LADA is also termed type 1.5

For a 'true' or maybe just lucky type 2 your diet should have had more effect than what you have seen - I am pretty certain, anyway.
When I went back to low carb after diagnosis in November '16 by the following February I was feeling great and had joined a morris side, a folk club a music session.......

In the Uk at least, type 2 is all too often the lazy default diagnosis given to anyone who isnt obviously T1

Been to docs and is sending me for a blood test to see if i am type 1 and to test lots more. Has prescribed Metformin SR and was going to hold on this until blood tezt back but then decided to prescribe now. X
