I was diagnosed as being diabetic just under a year ago. I am 27, and they still don't know if I am type 1 or type 2 as I have Hashimotos Autoimune Hypothyroidism, so you have one autoimmune you can have more. Hence why they aren't 100% sure.

Funny thing is, the doctors never wanted to believe I have hashimotos, I have been diagnosed 7 times in 4 years, lol. But the second a test comes back as being diabetic, they are all over it.

I see an endocrinologist at the moment, my next appointment is in 2 weeks, where I will find out if I am going to be able to control my diabetes with just my thyroid meds. fingers crossed, as metformin makes me so ill

Welcome Ladystrange13

I hope that your next endo appointment goes well and that they sort out your "bag" of issues.

Take care

How does Metformin upset you?

Well due to my metabolism having only just been rebooted for what of a better word, it makes everything pass through me at a rate that makes me question do I even digest anything? It also gives me terrible stomach pains, so I am going to see if there is anything else I can take.

Hi
I'm the same! I was diagnosed with hashimotos 4 years ago and diabetes 3 years ago. They treated me as T2 but I fell pregnant shortly after so put me on insulin during the pregnancy. After my boy was born in 2011 they took me off insulin and gave me metformin But like you it ran through me with much pain and discomfort. Within 8 weeks of the birth I was admitted to a&e with DKA. They tested for GAD antibodies and they were positive so I was put back on insulin. My control is good but I have to take Massive amounts of insulin to get there! Last hba1c was 7.9.

Metformin is great for many things but it just doesn't agree with me. You could try glucophage. It's a slower releasing metformin.

I tried it but it gave me the same symptoms just delayed a little

Generic name Metformin, Brand name Glucophage

Glucophage is just a brand name for Metformin they're the same drug but Glucophage XR (Extended Release) or Metformin SR (Slow Release) are the slow release versions of this drug which some people find kinder especially for stomach cramps and Diarrhoea.

hELLO AND WELCOME

Sorry to hear of your Thyroid problems and not being properly diagnosed yet. Unfortunately you can other autoimmune medical conditions/diseases :( I hope you will get a proper diabetes diagnosis very soon. Take care RRB
