HGV Medical

I was able to drive cars but not LGV until paperwork/medical sorted. It is a long process. I had to have medical with my own consultant and fill out paperwork but I still had to have another medical with DVLA appointed specialist because they don't consider your own consultant "independant". The nearest DVLA doc to me was well over an hours drive away. Hopefully, should be easier next time around. The medical wasn't easy either, I was questioned a lot on all DVLA guidelines regarding insulin/testing etc and he went through every single reading on my BG monitor for the last 3 months. Make sure you are aware of all DVLA rules prior to medical.
It will be the same every time you av a medical as tney are gettin stricter by the minute I've been to see DVLA independent consultant and adnt enough readings dut to me Avin a procedure dun cus I cudnt take my insulin and forgot to mention this when I went but got to go and see one Nxt sat the first time when they lifted the ban for hgv drivers to drive on insulin they took yr own consultants word but all as changed this second time round so hopin I get my bk soon fingers crossed as Xmas day and boxin day I only tested the once

Fingers crossed for you ! It's a pain but doable ! As for you only testing once Xmas and Boxing Day, that won't be a problem. As long as you've got 3months worth on your meter.

I don't think tney give you 2/3yrs licence if yr on insulin but I ad my renewal a mth before it was due to expire I think it shud b at least 4mths so u can get things sorted before yr hgv runs out so I am not out ov work as companies do not except the paper work the DVLA send for you to carry on driving until they av sorted it all out as if I'd ov been with a haulage company I was working for they sed I wud ov been suspended until my licence was in my hand so no job

They only renew LGV for 12months at a time. The process does get quicker, but not easier ! Good luck all :)

Class 1 have been just issued for another year :).
I have good control. Pen injections. Never had severe hypo however in last 3 months checked on a examination I had 4 readings below 3mmol. Along with the lows I proved appropriate action and retest.

Yes you should keep it providing A you don't go on to insulin and B you test your blood as required by DVLA I think that is 45 mins before you start driving and every 2 hours whilst driving. But not sure about just being on metformin
Why do the DVLA waste postage on tellin you tha u av got yr hgv back and not send yr licence back same time they don't half baffle me ever likely the countries in such a mess
