Hi All....22yr old post Coma

Hi All!
My daughter, 22yr old type 1 since 11, suffered a hypo shock which put her in a coma. This was last Wednesday. She opened her eyes a week later in ICU but has not been very responsive. Had a few MRI scans done etc and still not results that make sense.
She's awake but not lucid, looks around without focusing. She's off life support but being tube fed at the moment. When she does talk it's mainly nonsense. Has ANYONE had or know of the comeback from this type of episode?

So sorry about your daughter.
These comas can cause trauma to the brain to the exstent (in this case I saw in a documatary.) of a personality change in the patient.?
I must stress as a long term diabetic the medical professionals have always warned me of the dangers of a coma, but until I saw this program featuring an actual survivor it never realy "hit home"..

It's early days for your daughter.... & sincerely hope she recovers.
 
No experience of it but wishing your daughter a full recovery and thinking of the rest of the family as well at this difficult time.

Don't give up hope. The human body is stronger than we give it credit for. There was a lady here recently who was in a similar situation with her daughter and she made an excellent recovery. I say that not to give you false hope but to show that there is still a chance.

healing takes time and she has had a big trauma.
I am sorry I have no personal experience to offer any assistance.
 
My uncle was diagnosed as Type 1 at 29 years of age after he fell into a coma. The nurse who attended him in the Emergency room knew my father, his brother and so smelled his breath first thing and recognized DKA right away. He was in a coma for several days and also had pneumonia but eventually recovered to lead a very productive life. So his blood glucose was high rather than low but he did recover. They started him on insulin that day. That was 50 years ago.

I'm sorry about your daughter's hypo Jason. Hypos are very dangerous, especially if they affect the brain. On the other hand, I have read that the brain comes to normal after 3 months while treated in the hospital. I hope that happens soon. I think the doctors will treat her soon.
 
so sad to read about your daugther... so sad , hope she will recover soon despite of how she seems right at the moment... best wishes for your daughter and your family

I'm really very sorry to hear of your daughter's condition and, like others, do hope and pray she will show signs of recovery very soon and go on to getting back to her normal self.

Hang in there. It must seem devastating but keep your hope and good expectations. As @chalup says, don't forget to look after yourself too so you can be there to help your daughter. Best wishes to your family {{{Hugs}}}
