I am new to diabetes and this forum,

I have only just been diaganosd (31 March 2009), I am on Novorapid and Lantus.

I might end up asking lots of question..

This is an odd situation.

When I orignally posted back in 2009 I was told I was T1.

This lasted till October 2009, when I was tested and told I was T2. I was tested as I had tight control and takin 1 or 2 units of insulin with my meals.

In May 2010, I came off Metformin, as my bloods were still betwee 4-7 (H1BC** was about 5.1 to 5.8)

This was all well and good till Sunday when I started to feel fuzzy. I dug out my old meter and still had indate test strips and I was at 21 mml.

I rang the out of hours medical, who put me glizerides. Saw my regualar Diabeic Nurse on the Tuesday who Suggested I take 1/2 Gliz and 1 Metformin around breakfast and tea. But my sugars were still high.

On Thursday I saw my GP, and she was less than helpful, saying I should stay on my meds as is, or go back on Insulin. She was not willing to take the risk so refured me back to my Diabetic Consultant, I am now waiting for an appointment.

I am still worried as my bloods are still high 17 this morning..

Any Suggestions?
 
I remember your previous posts where you told us you had been re-diagnosed. Type 1 to a Type 2. If they are sure about it we have to go with that.

Might be an idea to let us know what a typical days menu consists of, might perhaps explain those high Bg numbers. You only say 'healthy' diet which for me starts to ring alarm bells !! Insulin would have been able to cover all that you ate previously but now you are not on that it has to be down to diet, and/or medication and exercise......

BTW, can you change the details in your profile and sig to reflect the diagnosis, it can be confusing for Member's when answering you........ :)

It would seem to me that your another diabetic who's a victim of the poor health service that is starting to be quite topical on the site. If i was in your situation i would write a letter of complaint to your surgery manager/ess explaining that your Gp has left you confused about your condition and possibly exposing you to danger .These poor reactions from so called health proffesionals are turning in to a trend.Good luck :D

I have to admit beacuse of work and quite an awkward divorce, I have not been to the gym or played rugby as much as I did.

Meal wise..

Breakfast - Toast / Cereal
Lunch (Workday) - Homemde sandwiches / salad.
Weekends - Sunday Lunch or wraps etc

Evening Meals - Home made food, chillies,

Snack include fruit, yogurt, odd packet of crisps (fench fries/ hula hoops)

I do eat carbs, but did cut back when diagnosed in 2009 origanlly.

The bit I am concerned / worried about is that it has jumped to 20's this week.
So I cut out alcohol, as much carbs as I could, and reduced portion size.

Even played Rugby on Sat, but my bloods remain high.
 
You need to go back to the GP. You may need to go back on Insulin for your health's sake until they can decide what is going on !

Does this mean that you have not been testing since you were re-diagnosed ? It's possible that your Bg levels have therefore been creeping up slowly since that time.

Can you ask your GP for C-peptide and GAD tests to check if you are definitely not a Type 1 ?
It may be that you were Type 1 after all and in the 'Honeymoon period' which may now have finished.

Going by your menu above you were eating quite a lot of carbs. Try testing before and two hours after each meal and note the results to see if it is just the food that is affecting your Bg levels.
 
I have been testing before and after meals, and there is a jump of 2 or 3, but then I am really high at the moment. My morning level today was 17.

How long does a honeymoon period last for, I mean I came off insulin in Oct 2009?

This length and nature of this phase varies from person to person but honeymooning occurs during the first year of diagnosis and can last for weeks, months, and on rare occasion, for a year or longer. It is not consistent enough to predict if, when, and for how long it will last. And some may never experience noticeable honeymooning.

The older you are and the slower your onset of beta cells destruction (for example, in early onset of juvenile diabetes this happens more rapidly than in latent autoimmune diabetes), the more likely you are to experience the honeymoon phase, and the longer it will last. Therefore, young children are the least likely to honeymoon significantly, and those with latent onset autoimmune diabetes of adulthood ([LADA], also called slow-onset or type 1.5), older teens, and young adults more likely to honeymoon than are preteens and young children.

This may or may not explain what is happening to you. Try and get the GP to refer you to an Endocrinologist as it sounds like you need specialised input.
