Hi guys,
I'm new here so thought I would say hello.
I'm following a low-carb diet at the moment. I've been dieting now for a month and have lost 1stone 4lbs. I have type 2 diabetes and have already had to stop one of my tablets because my blood sugar is so well controlled so that's an unexpected very pleasant benefit.
I have about 4 stone left to lose so am going to be continuing on the very low carb phase for quite a while yet.
I'm finding it surprisingly easy to stick to low carb eating and have been making some lovely recipes and have bought some great gadgets to help with making food interesting.
Rob.

That sounds very encouraging for you. Let us know if you have any problems with raised cholesterol. Total may rise slightly but the figures within the total Trig and Hdl should improve. I have noticed a big increase in my levels, which disappointing. Most people don't.

Oh I didn't think about that. I'm not on any cholesterol tablets as yet so will have to keep an eye on it. Thank you.

Nice progress. How's your average level? I found low carb dieting was the way forward for me..just had a wee hiccup following some stomach problems (unrelated to diet) and I gave in (to cereal) a wee bit to make life easier, but I'm back on track now. It's important to make sure your diet is sustainable (ie. not one you hate) and it sounds like you have that sussed.

Most people find that their total cholesterol rises, because the HDL or 'good' cholesterol rises dramatically on the LCHF diet. Your LDL (bad) and Triglycerides(bad) are likely to fall, but often the LDL will not fall until after your weight has stabilised at your reduced level, simply because fat is coming out of your fat cells to be used as fuel, it's in your bloodstream so makes your LDL levels go up, but I believe that is nothing to worry about. I wouldn't have your cholesterol checked at all until you have finished losing weight.
If you are enjoying a low carb diet, why not look at sticking with it for ever, not just for weight loss, for the benefit of your diabetes? For me, this diet has resulted in massive reduction of blood pressure, now on no medication and elimination of dreadful heartburn, again, now medication free, and now HbA1c totally normal. These are not unusual results. Good luck.

I think I will definitely look at sticking to a low carb diet for the future. Maybe not quite as low as I am doing at the moment as I would like to eat fruit again lol.
My levels now average around 4-5 consistently. I had to stop taking my gliclizide as I was going down to 2.5 which is bad hehe.
I did try low carb dieting in the past purely for weight loss reasons before I was diagnosed diabetic and I found it quite unsustainable. That was years ago though and there seem to be a lot more products available now to help replace things I miss.

Hi @RobPL

Welcome. Congratulations seems like you are really on top of things and doing really well. I have found this a great place to ask questions read thru posts etc.
@daisy1 will send you some info.

Keep up the great work

Well done, you seem to be on top of things and enjoying the LCHF life ,reversing your diabetes ,lowering cholesterol and losing weight are all possible just by a change of food ,have you a meter?

Eating to my meter,I found that although I was lowcarbing I was getting high BG numbers ,the problem was portion size,I am more In control now so seldom test

Oh I haven't got one of those. I couldn't do this diet without my vertical egg grill though. It's amazing. I stick a skewer through a hotdog, crack an egg in and a bit of salt and 10 mins later have an eggdog on a stick hehe.
