My level at the time of writing is 18mmol/l
My first appointment will be on the 23rd Dec with a nurse that deals with diabetes.
Not had anyone in the profession giving me advice, nor have I got any medication to help get the level down.
It does make me feel drained and tired, and extremely thirsty as though not drank in days.
I have cut down on sugar and carbs, plus I take my dog for a good walk for 3/4 hour a day, and play catch with my dog in the evening.
I'm not sure what else I can to take the mmol/l level down to below 7.0 mmol/l or what ever the norm is 2 or so hours after food?
Any advice would be most welcome.
Thank you.

Just a thought, are you drinking enough liquids?
maybe replace some of the carbs you have cut out with salad stuff or leafy greens.
beware the carbs in drinks, especially fruit juices.
good luck

Hi Martin_Wh and welcome

Did they tell you what your HbA1c result was? That's usually the means used to diagnose, which implies that you're somewhere over 48 mmol/mol. Depends where, though. Many people on this forum (and I'm one) have had success adopting a low carb way of eating. This means eliminating most, or nearly all, carbs from the diet - so I don't eat bread, pastry, rice, cereals, pasta, most fruit, and most root vegetables.

That brought my BG back to normal levels (without medication) within four months back in 2020, and since then I've lost around 40kg - I'm not sure exactly how much because my scales stopped registering anything above 118kg, so I don't know where I started.

You've obviously got a glucometer, and I'd recommend using that before you eat and again two hours later. That should show clearly how well your system handled the carb in what you ate. The two hour figure is not the peak - that will happen round about 45 minutes after eating - but it does show you the thing you're most interested in, which is how well your system copes with what you eat.

best of luck. This forum is a really good resource of lived experience, and there is absolutely no limit to the number of questions you can ask. You might also want to take look at the "Success Stories" section which should give some idea of what can be achieved.

It's tough to hear, isn't it @Martin_Wh ? I had my 'diagnosis' a couple of weeks ago (still don't know what type of diabetes it is yet). I've found plenty of information on here and lots of helpful and friendly advice. That appointment you have on the 23rd will be of help. If possible, would someone be able to accompany you to that? I myself found it helpful.
