Does anyone have an explanation has to why my BG drops to a low reading after food.
Friday it went from 8.4 to 3.8 two hours after evening meal
Today after lunch it dropped to 4.6 from 6.4 both times I tested 2 hrs after eating and was shocked with low BG readings.
If anyone has an answer to this can you get in touch. K

Much would depend on what you had eaten and what you had been doing at the time. Sometimes it just happens. Neither of those scores 4.6 or 3.8 are worryingly low. I'm assuming you felt fine at the time?

I think they would be acceptable by most type two's!
To be within normal blood glucose levels after two hours is very good!

I must admit when recently my levels dropped from approaching 12 one hour after eating down to 4.3 at two hours after eating though not that low I still felt awful as to why it happens I just don't know. But you are not alone in experiencing it if that is any consolation.

John, I imagine at least part of the reason you may have felt off would be the pace of the drop you appear to have experienced.

Hi @Granny_grump_
If I have been stressed in cooking a meal I will sometimes get a high reading before a meal and then 2 hours after it's back down to where I like it. Both your quoted readings are a little high for pre meal. The only one that would concern me at all was the Friday one 8.4 down to 3.8. Had you been stressed? What had you eaten? Had you done any exercise after food? I find a short gentle walk often helps to bring me levels down.

Hi AndBreathe
No I had the shakes and then stomach cramps on the Friday,
We had been shopping in the afternoon where I had a mocha coffee not had this before and it was sweet, so I assume the higher reading of 8.4 before evening meal was down to that.
I had my meal homemade beef and veg. Soup two hours later it dropped to 3.8 then not long after I started shaking felt week had yogurt fruit and cream, felt better. An hour later feeling tired 9 pm went to bed and stomach cramps began.

Today 9.10 am BG was 6.5
One hour walk with dogs
11.50 am BG 6.4
13.50 BG was 4.6 this was two hours after lunch

My lunch was 200 g mackerel. Salad and Advocado olive oil lemon juice white wine vinegar and Dijon mustard dressing

I eat very low carb has they spike my BG,been doing this since January, type2 no meds diet controlled.
My BG is usually very steady between 5 and 6s had a 4.9 BG a few weeks ago this is the lowest I've had until now. Kathleen

Hi No2D

Sounds like something wasn't agreeing with you, if you had tummy cramps. Try not to feel too concerned about it, unless it becomes a regular occurrence. Every now and then, diabetes appears to decide to go against everything we've learned.

Sometimes, we just have to shrug our shoulders and accept we may never really know what transpired.

ThankYou everyone for your help,it seems from what's been said that my BG was not unusually low except to me has I'm not used to it being that low. But still scary when I got the shakes! Just needed some reassurance that doing very low carbing was not responsible for lower BG readings. K

Hi Hitsme. I hadn't been stressed had a nice afternoon out with hubby shopping, we had our lunch before we went out at 12pm, diet doctor sausage and veg gratin, basically sausage cauliflower and cheese.
Whitest out shopping this sweet tasting Mocha coffee not had it before half a toasted fruit bun with butter about 2.30 pm we had this. K
