If you have any questions on anything at all just ask and someone will come up with the answer.

Chez 4 the info daisy. Yh was a bit of a shock. By the time I was diagnosed I'd lost over 3 stone in a very short time and had a blood sugar level of over 35 :o. Iv got it down to roughly 7-10 now tho. Seeing dietician on Friday.

Good luck for Friday then. :) And take more notice of the diet recommendations I posted than those the dietician will probably tell you as we know more about diabetes than they do  - we are specialists in it. She/he may tell you to eat lots of carbs whereas we recommend reducing them.

hya burnsy and welcome to the forum,
have a good look around and ask anything, someone will be able to help :D

Just thought I'd give an update of my situation. Bin 2 doctors 4 a check and he says I'm doing fine on my 4 nova rapid b4 meals and 12 litmus at night. In a very gd mood as not only did I achieve my record low of 5.1 but iv found out I can still drink my sugar free vannila latte from Starbucks lol happy days

They do a sugar free vanilla latte!!!? I've been dutifully slugging back a soy latte a week instead of my beloved gingerbread ones but a vanilla would be a good substitute. Going to have to get me one of those :)

Anybody know what the carb count is in one of these 'sugar free' Vanilla Lattes.......most of the Lattes are around 30g carbs for a 400+ mil cup/mug ? Soy versions not much different.

Yh m8. Lol sugar free =) Just 2 alleviate some worries, and don't quote me on this, I don't think theirs much wrong with a sugar free, light skimmed vanilla late as I have had a large one now twice with my midday lunch with 4 units of nova rapid for it all and seen no spikes 2 hours later. ( I would check yourself first, possibly ask staff for contents. However my doctor said it should be fine) Managed to stsy below 10 all day 2day =) btw can any1 who has participated in DAFNY confirm that it's true you can return to "relatively normal" eating afterwards? Thnks a bunch in advance

All of Starbuck's Coffee's are listed in the Carb Calorie and Fat Bible 2011. You might want to check them out. A Grande could be much more ? Every one is slightly different.

But I still don't understand why they are so high. Unsweetened soy milk is 0.1g carbs per 100ml( according to Tescos) Do they really vary so much? I have the smallest size but even a Grande couldn't get it that high could it? :?

Starbucks Vanilla Latte Grande. Soy Milk is 6.5g carbs per 100 mil. Quantity of a Grande ? Can we do this tomorrow (later today) please. I'm on my phone just now. Maybe it's what else they put in it ?

Hi there. I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago today with T1 and have a similar history to you in that I lost just over 2st in 5 weeks prior to diagnosis. As I was pretty small to start with, this has left me really struggling with reduced muscle mass as well as all the other things I have to get my head around. This forum has been an absolute life saver in the past three weeks! I have read and read lots of different threads and what I have learnt has helped me to cope with situations when they have then happened to me. I hope you are coping OK. Everyone on here is so kind and quick to help - no matter what time of day or night you post something. Good luck. Tracy

Hi Jaykay.

Back to the Starbuck's Vanilla Latte. The carbs do depend on the size of the mug and it is all relative.

Unsweetened Soya Milk is listed as having 0.9g carbs per 100 mil in the CC&FB 2011. Are you sure that Starbucks use 'unsweetened' Soya Milk as they only list Soya Milk which has 2.7g carbs per 100 mil ?

Starbucks Vanilla Grande Latte Soy is listed as having 6.5g carbs per 100 mil. There is amost certainly something else in there if it goes from 0.9g to 6.5g per 100 mil.

The point is even though you think you might be getting something low in carbs, as you can see it isn't always the case. I use Starbucks myself but just have a brewed Grande which has 0g carbs.

Starbuck's as you know has many different Coffee's........the carb content ranges from 0g to 14.3g per 100 mil. Quite a difference, especially if having a few cups or a larger serving.

Hope that has cleared things up, even if it is slightly off topic. :)

Hey Cugila, thanks for taking the time to reply :) Yes I am sure it's unsweetened because I always nick the box they pour it out of to have a look. The Costa chain store near my choir rehearsal ( where I have one small soy latte a week ) use the one that says it's only 0.1g per 100ml. I haven't had an actual Starbucks as such since being diagnosed but I will go in and demand to see there figures. If they are not too bad I might risk it as I only have an occasional one and a small one at that. Thanks for the help :)

Yh managing okay thnx Tracy. And yourself? Had 1st hypo 2day lol. Was my own stupid fault. I took 4 units of nova rapid 4 1 price of bread when my level was already 6.2 nothing a nice slice of pizza from pizza hut couldn't cure lol :)
