Hi my name is Bobby , living on the coast of England. I have a Hearing Dog as I am am severely deaf. but can speak - conversing can be tricky. My dog listens for sounds at home eg alarm clock. doorbell, pill alarm . He lets me know which one it is. He has to go into country or park to be off the lead each day. So i enjoy walking , finding country or beach spots and new places to go. I garden a little and love to watch birds, fox, and flowers grow. We had primroses in September which bloomed round to April.
Im hoping to find some fellow diabetics who experience some or all of these ; Hb1ac 51 - satisfactory. Metformin and one dose insulin; Low weight 45kg - 49kg (but increase desired) Hypers, Hypos, and Generally very puzzled about managing my diabetes and my day to day diet and my weight
My family and I , plus dog visit our local church regularly, we host a small group once a month . Being in our home its possible to mange the sound quality. One member is a type 2 bu thats related to weight more than mine is. At some point hearing from others with diabetes condition like mine would be good but maybe not when saying Hi

Hi @Bobby105 , nice to meet you!

Have you found any patterns relating to your food or the timing of your insulin with the hypers and hypos?
Have you ever used a continuous monitor like freestyle libre to help finding patterns? They do a free trial if you've never used one before.

Hi ,Thanks, I did have a pattern but became unwell, so the readings are only just reurning to ''norm''
The most normal occurrence was 7-9 on waking at 7am. but 13-15, 2 hours after breakfast . Breakfast being egg or fish, 1 wholemal slice of bread. 11/2 decaf tea Maybe once a week bowl of 25-30g of porridge in water with a dash of milk and a splash of soya cream.
Today the reading had returned to 7.8 at 6.40a.m , 2 x poached eggs with one slice wholemeal toast and decaf tea. By 10am the reading was 13.5 , but I cant workout the reason for this reular jump. I'll post about my unusual type 2 so that mote type 2 folk can read it too

In the morning, it may be that two things are at play. Many of us experience 'foot on the floor' effect, basically our helpful livers dumping some extra glucose in our bloodstream to give us an energy boost to start the day with.
Pretty useless if you have diabetes, and it means that many of us will rise after waking up even if we don't eat or drink anything.

The second thing is breakfast. All carbs turn to glucose in the body, and both bread and porridge are hi carb foods. You could do some experimenting with leaving out the bread and having some more fish or eggs, and see if this makes a difference.
You might want to have a read of this, it's written by one of our T2 members and it explains things much clearer than I can: https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html

With your hba1c at 51, it's very likely that your post breakfast numbers are the highest of the day. Many people can deal with carbs a bit better later in the day, it may be the same for you.

Glad to hear you're on the mend again, and yes, no patterns to find when being unwell.

@Antje77 thank you for the link to the long article..... Im always reluctant to give up bread or my handful of potato. I only weigh between 45 and 49 kg. I get very hungry an hour after breakfast . Recently when unwell i slipped from 49 to 45kg in 2 weeks. I will try again and look again at the article re fats and protein.
On 2 days i played around with the egg , bread, meal doing without breaad one day but the result was the same. Maybe 2x eggs and a thick plain yogurt might be better.

What about having a full English, minus the beans and toast?
Bacon and eggs, tomato, mushrooms, all fried in butter may fill you up better than that slice of toast.
I tend to get hungry when my blood glucose is high, which makes sense because the glucose sitting in the bloodstream isn't being used for energy.
thick plain yogurt
Both Aldi and Lidl have a very nice 10% fat plain Greek yoghurt, it's the fat content that makes it filling, you need the calories.

Thanks I'll come back to you. A private dietician gave me some ideas. I will fish them out and share. And reply about breakfasts too
