Hi I’m julieclarke I’ve joined to find out more about T2 diabetes

They used to, they don’t anymore, I got mine from outside the UK
 
You can't sell diabetic chocolate in the UK as it is against the food labelling regulations. I think they banned it being called diabetic choclate about 10 years ago.

For some reason I can eat milk chocolate and it doesn't seem to affect me much, I don't ever have it though.
 
I remember seeing a big display of "Diabetic" chocolate in Boots many years ago.
 
It must have been at least 9/10 years ago. They banned it as it was misleading if I remember correctly. My father in law was a type 1 and he used to go on about them as he considered it dangerous as no doubt people were thinking that they could just eat a lot of it with no ill affects for diabetes.
 
I was a child then so could be 40-50 years ago!!
 
That is quite a while ago. I got bought some sugar free chocolate last christmas from a family member. It was so kind of them to help but I didn't have the heart to tell them that it was actually high in carbs. I gave it to my daughter instead and she enjoyed them. I really appreciated the thought though as I bet it took her a while to find sugar free ones.

There was a “special” section in the small local chemist when I was a kid for diabetics. Around that era.
Which also included fruit squash? The only place you could get it.

There was sugar free TAB & Fresca in some corner shops..
 
I am talking metformin 4 times a day which is 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening around 7:30pm
I also take Atorvastatin 40mg x1 in the evening and a trulicity pen every Friday
Remember to take metyl B12. Ask your GP to check B12 levels.. if using that much metformin.
If you get fatigue, get tingling in finger or toes or keep biting your toungue and getting ulcers you might have metformin induced B12 deficiency..

 
Cool trick with rice is to cook with a little oil and then cool it in fridge before eating it.
alos eat rice last after the protein and veg..
White rice is nearly pure sugar when digested..
Cooling it, makes the starch into resistant starch and it can't be broken down so fast so reaches the lower gut where it ferments (if you have eaten fibre -veg with it)

I've found increasing fibre via Chia , flax seed puddings or mixing with yoghurt.
(never eat chia seeds by themselves and always soak or mix in fluid for a while.)
or just chomp on pumpkin seeds
 
Rheumatoid Arthritis ,is almost impossible to treat ,gabapentim caused me serious memory loss ,then Amitriptyline caused the most severe headaches ,I've ever experienced ,,and I have a phobia of pain meds, tried almost everything ,frustration is my worst enemy ,being a retired stone mason and always have been active .
 
I only took it for just over a week,,everybody i talked to kept asking me what was wrong ,as found myself forgetting silly stuff ,would be chatting and then mind went blank ,was forgetting the most simpliest of things, so stopped them and informed my doctor, took me approx 2 further weeks to get back to normal. I was experiencing really bad cramps and very painful joint pains ,legs but mostly in my hands. (retired Stone Mason). Still got the pains ,just learning to do things differently and also must accept many things, I must get used to idea ,I cannot do the same any more, am learning to cut back on most things I enjoy doing ,such as my garden.
