I am very new to this game! I was diagnosed with type 2 in January 2025.
I went for a routine eye test, I am 75, a and the optician found five small bleeds behind each eye I was then told to go straight to the doctors and have my blood pressure taken which was 234 / 90 put on statins and blood pressure tablets straight away, I hasten to add I had no bad symptoms, the following day my doctor took a blood sample and said that I had to go to the hospital to be flushed out, my reading was 25.3, because of the amount of glucose in my system....took most of the day on a drip. I was then put on Humulin1 and told I had type 2, and my dosage was 14, skip a few weeks..... The diabetic nurse put my insulin up to 18 then 20 then 22.....but I felt I was too high as I kept dropping below 4.0 I mentioned this to her and she said drop it down to where you feel comfortable I am now on 18 and stable, I inject once a day in the morning, but in the meantime time I have been diagnosed with womb cancer and bad to have a complete hysterectomy in May...so I have had a bit of a time of it lately, my diabetes also caused concerned regarding my Robotic Hysterectomy, I was put in a drip with insulin and glucose before the op. I managed my food quite well, but eating out still stumps me and I go for basics, fish and veggies. I cook all my own food from scratch at home including sugar free cakes and biscuits....I feel I have come a long way from going to the opticians, but resting at the moment, but getting there! Our NHS has been wonderful I have been checked out for a yearly eye examination at my local hospital and my doctors have tested my feet and are every pleased with my progress.....that's my story
