hi
I think I might be hanging around here soon if thats OK. Bare with me please because this is all new to me.
I went to the docs yesterday because I thought I had a water infection. She tested my sample and said it was high in sugar, then tested my blood and the reading was 17.6. She then said I probably had T2 diabetes. I've had a blood test today and I have to go back next Monday and see her.
Thing is I've not felt good for a while. I quickly tire, legs ache more, very dry mouth especially at night etc.
I am on Metaformin @ 500mg. I am 42, non smoker/drinker, probably 1.5 stone overweight. I wish I could get to Monday quicker so that I knew if I was diabetic or not. I am having a good look around this site and its very interesting.

I'll let you know how I get on with my results.

cheers

Hi Jethro42 and welcome to the forums. Know the dry mouth very well myself!

As you will see from my signature, I am also recently diagnosed and done the rounds of confusion, rage, denial etc etc etc. IT does sounds like you are T2, but of course there could be other reasons.

Do let us know how you get on and if you are T2, there are plenty of folks here ready and willing to support and share their experience.

Smart thinking reading the forums and posts and get an idea of how many of us manages more or less successfully!! There are a lot of conflicting information so please do not despare - IF you are T2 you will no doubt be given a lot of information from your health care team (GP in the first instance), but do read up on the info here and DUK, at least you will be "well armed" for the chat with your GP on Monday. :)

Take care
Alice

Hi
just an update. My latest hb1ac was 6.0, down from 17.6, and my cholesterol was 3.6, down from 6.7.

I've lost 14lb. My wife has changed my diet, I still enjoy the food she cooks and its a lot healthier.

The only downside is the medication I was on.
rosuvastatin 40mg
valsartan 80mg

I've decided that I am going to come of these for 3 months. Leg ache, dry cough, sleeping problems, mood swings, things I have only had since being diagnosed with diabetes. I missed a week of taking these tables whilst on holiday and felt better. Time will tell.

regards

Hi Jethro42,

That's a massive improvement in less than 6 moths. Well done! Keep it up!

Sounds like you've got a great wife! Look after her!

Best wishes - John
