Hello...
My name is Martin and I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes way back in 1998. I supposed it was down to being very overweight and having the typical male barrel shape with most of my fat around my abdomen. I started on metformin which seemed to be pretty good for the first couple of years but ended up on Mixtard 30 for the next year and now on a "as needed" regimen of Novorapid and Novo Levemir. My diabetes management is poor and I see a consultant for high lipids who also helps with medication for my diabetes. I use about 60u of novorapid for each meal and about 60u of levemir at night which my consultant thinks is not a weight based problem but more "the way I'm built". So I'm not sure quite what that means but clearly any reduction in weight will also mean a reduction in the amount of insulin I need to use!
My control is a bit of a mess. I had a few mental health issues and I seem to treat my diabetes as a means to self harm. It is a daily struggle to make sure I take my insulin properly and the plethora of other meds to go with. My last HbA1c was awful (although they seem to have changed how it is measured) and my lipids are way up high. I know I have much to do and really need to start from scratch again. Even testing is an issue. My consultant is trying to get me to test before and 2 hours after meals to see how well my current insulin dose copes.
Anyway, I shall look along the posts and maybe I can make some useful contributions as well as getting some useful advice too.
