Hi Everyone, Im a newly diagnosed 26year old male with type 1 about 4 months now. Was going very good, was just working out my correct insulin dosage which took a while but seem to have it sorted now. I am currently using Novarapid at meals and Lantus at night. I was on too much meal time insulin and kept having small lows after meals usally about 3.3mmol/L. But my insulin was revised by my diabetic nurse and i havent gone low for 2 weeks now and they havent really been that high.
My problem:
Before xmas I got a bad head cold and I started to feel dizzy abit, like i was standing on a boat that was moving up and down. I went to my GP and he said it was an ear infection that is effecting my balance. He put me on stemetil tablets and i took them for a couple of days and it seems to stop so I stopped taking them and my cold also went. Then after xmas I caught that flu/cough that was going around and the dizziness came back.
Went back to my GP last week and he checked my blood pressure, heart, breathing etc and said it was fine but I had chest infection so he put me on the same tablets again and a mild antibiotic for a week. Stopped taking the stemetil tablets as I felt even more dizzier on them but took the antibiotic. I was away in Tenerife last week and I seemed fine only felt that bouncy/dizzy feeling a few times over there. But since I have come back it has gotten alot worse. My blood sugar has been good, staying around the 6 - 7mmol/L with a few times going about 11-12mmol/L after a few meals but then coming down to about 7-8mmol/L.
I had noticed that the dizziness happened when my b/s was around 5 or 6 (which is prefect), and that it was never really in the morning and starting to notice it at lunch time.
But all this week since ive been back from Tenerife it has been happening all the time and it very annoying feels like the floor is moving when I stand or walk. I have also noticed that when I get this feeling that my pupils are very big and that my hands get pretty cold.
If any one could shed some light on this would be great before I go back to my GP in a few days.
Thanks a mill.
Alan
