Hello, I thought I was doing well but suddenly my numbers went really high. I don't know if there's a way of getting them back down. I'm now taking Victoza and Metformin 2000mg.

Hoping to get to know others who've been through similar experiences here.

Hi @lemon&ginger , welcome to the forum.

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? How long have you been diagnosed? What kind of foods are you eating? Are you testing before and after foods or just occasionally, or do you rely on hba1c results?

What kind of numbers do you see (if you test at home)? 'Really high' for some means hitting 10 after food, for others it means seeing dangerously high numbers in the 20's or higher.
Sorry for all the questions, the answers may be very helpful in replying to your questions. :)
 
Hi @Antje77, thanks for your reply. Ive been diagnosed about 10 years. I used to get numbers around 6. 5 but after a period of stress my numbers went up to 19.5. To be honest I ate badly.

Now I'm eating things like salad and cheese, wholemeal pasta and mozzarella and vegetables, sardines on toast, hummus and salad, berries and yogurt etc. My fasting blood sugar varies between 7.5 and 9.2. I haven't tested after meals yet.

I used to rely on the Hba1C because they didn't give me a meter, but now they've given me one.

The victoza is at 0.6ml and due to increase in a week or so's time.

To my thinking, testing before and after meals is much more useful than testing fasting numbers.
The fasting numbers only tell you you still have diabetes, but testing foods really gives you tools to make a change because they tell you what foods work well and what foods don't. :)
 
Thanks @Antje77 , that makes sense. Do you know if there's any possibility of getting these baseline numbers down though?

Many people seem to find that the fasting numbers are the last to come down when dropping the carbs.

Is this before or after you hurt your foot? Illness and/or injury is renowned for pushing up blood sugars.....
 
Thanks for the link @Antje77 , i didn't know that about fasting numbers. I meant to try and reduce my fasting numbers more.
