Hi to all,

I am using Jardince 25mg tablets and insulin how do I go about getting a sensor to attach to my arm to do blood glucose monitoring instead of using tests strips.?
Please could someone let me know and how can I minimise weight gain with insulin.
On Lantus I have no energy to do anything.
Constant Fatigue.

Hello.

You could try talking to your endocrinologist regarding getting prescribed the Libre. If you are using insulin. (They should then instruct your GP to put on repeat?)

Regarding Lantus. I’ve never had any issues with weight gain on the stuff. (can’t help, sorry.)

Do you use any other insulin other than Lantus?

I've had issues with weight gain, though I don't necessarily assume it is the lantus. The only thing that has worked for me is a combo of lowish carb and avoiding too many snacks on cheese.

But I don't think you should be feeling exhausted all the time, that doesn't sound right to me.

How are you blood sugars since you started the lantus? High blood sugars can cause tiredness.

If they are high then you definitely need to talk to your team about your doses. And of course, if you are reducing your carbs you need to be careful about hypos. (As a long term T1 I know how to adjust my insulin doses to balance my food but suspect you will need help on this from your team)

Thankyou for your reply I messaged the diabetes consultant physicion about the above as she sent me a letter regarding another issue so I have replied hopefully she will make me an appointment to go see her about my diabetes and try to come to some conclusion about my weight issues aswell.

Not much happening if you go to the doctors I want real answers to my Questions.
I will let you know when I get a reply.
I went swimming last weds I did loadz & when I came out of the pool after 1 hour I was shaking inside I could feel it and weak dizzyness but dont know why.?
So I've sort of been put off going because of the above.

Are you able to test your blood sugar when this happens? As you are on insulin you could be getting low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) at times and that has symptoms very similar to that. Hopefully your nurse talked to you about the possibility that your blood sugar might go low on insulin???
 
And hypos (if that's what you had, we can't diagnose) shouldn't be a reason to stop you swimming, as long as you take fast acting glucose (eg jellybabies) with you and take some if you start to go low. As a T1 insulin user, I check my blood sugar before swimming, have glucose by the side of the pool and also tell the pool lifeguard that I am diabetic on insulin so that they can rescue me if I hypo while swimming. (I've never needed rescuing but I reckon that it's worth them knowing, just in case).

But hopefully once you get a sensor you'll be able to tell whether your blood sugar is high or low more easily.
