High a1c since quitting Hot Yoga and taking up swimming

Ever since my doctors tested me at a1c of around 12.1 and 11.2 recently, have been trying to get on the program to lower it! I looked at some of my historic numbers: 6.2 in Dec 2018 and 6.4 in March 2019. Have been trying to get to the bottom of why this tremendous spike. I feel like I finally have an answer, wanted to find out from others as to my thinking: During 2018 and 2019, I was doing a lot of hot yoga, almost daily the class is called C2 with Core Power Yoga for ppl familiar. Since 2020 due to pandemic I quit since there was a lot of forceful exhalation in a class of 20 plus members. At the same time, I took up swimming on a daily basis for at least 40-60 minutes for the last 2-1/2 years.

tldr: my readings have been consistently at 200-240 pre-prandial levels daily on my BGM. I intend to re-start my yoga hoping to see a drop/halving of my stats. Unfortunately will have to start only in October 2022 due to access hope to post an update then!

Interesting, swimming always crushes my numbers. I recommend getting a CGM to see your spiking during the swimming session. You can also try lower intensity

HI @ussam and welcome to the forums.
Can I ask how long you've been diabetic (I assume T2?) and whether you are on any medications?

Those a1cs correspond to average bgs of about 15 or 16mmol/L (about 270mg/dl) which is quite high. Though I find that strenuous workouts do awesome things for my bgs the next day, I am surprised that swimming is not working for you. (And I'm a T1, so I just find I need less injected insulin when I exercise more).

Can I ask whether you have tried any dietary measures to control your bg? (As you have a meter you have the means to test whether a measure is working for you.)
