I know exercise can reduce blood glucose but it hasn't been workin for me today even though I took more insulin with breakfast and lunch. Also ketones are showing and have increased since this morning.

I still have a few hours left at uni buy feeling a bit weak.

Should I continue to exercise to reduce ketones and blood glucose or will that make worse. I feel silly ringing the doctor again cos I feel as though that is all I am doing lately.

Any advice would help

Hi

You shouldn't be exercising if you have ketones and high blood sugars. Best to drink plenty of water to try and flush them out.

What are your numbers? It could be an emergency depending on how high.

16.2 and 0.3. Not as high as it has been, but energy is dropping. Have been eating good food so don't understand. Can it be from overworking myself?

0.3 is not bad, but you need to get the BG down. Exercise doesn't help when you BG is that high.

Correction dose would be the best plan but be careful not to stack insulin doses.

Ketone Testing

What should the ketone test results be?
  • Under 0.6 mmol/L - a normal blood ketone value
  • 0.6 to 1.5 mmol/L - indicates that more ketones are being produced than normal, test again later to see if the value has lowered
  • 1.6 to 3.0 mmol/L - a high level of ketones and could present a risk of ketoacidosis. It is advisable to contact your healthcare team for advice.
  • Above 3.0 mmol/L - a dangerous level of ketones which will require immediate medical care.

Yes, follow the advice of other posters. What do you mean by 'good food'. If your blood sugar is too high the main thing diet-wise is to drop the carbs right down at least for a while and then try to get the insulin balanced.
