High blood glucose in the mornings

I've just started Glicazide 40mg x 2 daily due to very high HBa1c (109). Going back to low carb and the Glicazide are helping my levels to come down during the day but not until the afternoon. Mornings I can still be as high as 16/17 even with low carb breakfast and low carb tea and good levels the evening before. Afternoons I can go to as low as 7.

Any tips to make mornings start to lower. I tend to eat breakfast about 9am and maybe later at the weekend.

When I first started Gliclizide (not on it now) my HbA1c was roughly the same as yours - I was in maximum dose and it took about 6 weeks to come down to a level I was happy with, also some people find that they are more insulin resistant in the morning.

What do you have for your breakfast? It may be your having more carbs than you think. If you decide to lower your carbs further just be careful of having hypos and do it gradually

your body releases sugars to wake you this is why they can be higher than they were when you went to bed

i have always wondered if this is higher if you are a mornning person

It's in the gift of your liver. It is possible to train it to accept a lower blood glucose level, but livers seem to be slow learners. If you've been running much higher recently, your liver probably thinks of that as "normal" and is doing its best to get you back there.

My liver took about six months to accept lower levels. Even now it will still tend to increase BG steadily in the morning unless reassured that I have food. My liver accepts three almonds as being "food".
