Hello and welcome to the forum
I understand the desire to bury your head in the sand but we are talking about your health here
It sounds like you have a meter so that is a great step. You really need to be doing regular testing before meals and 2 hours after.
My advice is to reduce all carbohydrates Not just sugar. All of them turn into glucose.
My second piece of advice is to stop thinking of eating food that spikes your blood sugars as 'naughty' It is actually serious saying 'naughty' makes it sound a bit trivial. The complications from diabetes can be very serious. The levels you are talking about are really high. You want to be aiming for much lower.
I'm sorry to sound harsh but I agree you really need to change. I am a carb addict- I really really love carbs- they are my favourite food- I just can't eat them again (well not more than 20 grams win a day) possibly (probably) for the rest of my life- forever. I decided to not bury my head in the there is also the possibility of much lower readings.
It may take a while to get the morning levels down- google dawn phenomena and that will give you some information
Soon someone will be here who can give you the newcomers information - I really need to learn how to tag someone.
Please stick around and read the information and make changes- your health is worth it
You are welcome here and people are only to willing to give you information and help to make the changes to your health.
Thanks for this I will look it up. It is all so overwhelming different carbs etc. I’ve been trying to read up on it all the past couple of days to try and understand it allHello and welcome to the forum

What kind of stuff are you eating/drinking to get those kind of results? My story - Apologies for long post
So diagnosed T2 about 2 years ago buried head in sand and then last year took a heart attack again birdies head in sand. I seem to think if I ignore something it will go away. Feel like **** all the time dizzy, blurred vision, foggy, lethargic etc. I could sleep all the time as I’m so tired and exhausted. Never know if it’s heart meds or diabetes that causing it but again just pod along rather than deal with it. Anyway I’m starting to realise that I have to change or I won’t be around very much longer so need to give myself a severe kick up the backside. Past couple days fasting blood sugar been in the 16’s 17’s and today was 18.9. I’ve been doing low GI and lowest I can get it is 12.8. Also going way off track at night but better than I have been doing in a long time. Long story to get to a question but is it normal for blood to be high in the morning at fasting after being naughty at night. I’m on 1000 metformin. Thanks
14 before breakfast
I egg scrambled with 1 slice brown bread
16.6 2 hrs after
I will give that a try. Usually always have white bread when I eat it but yesterday and today tried brown but will give it a miss tomorrow see any difference. I will write things down to keep track
The dark milk chocolate will probably spike your BG levels. If you crave chocolate m, try a couple of squares of 70% or higher of dark chocolate.Last night I had chicken stir fried with peppers
3 squares milkdark chocolate and glass of Prosecco as birthday
The bread as mentioned above is a problem. However the lentil soup may be too as lentils are high carb. It would certainly spike my levels. Sorry.Today I was 18.9 fasting
